Rope Halter to fit Cob Sized Horse

Hi all! I am searching for a rope halter that will fit my small horse (she can wear horse sized things, but on the highest buckles, cob usually fits better). I know I can buy a horse sized rope halter and make it fit, but I don’t want to deal with all the extra rope if I don’t have to.

Has anyone had any experience with Weaver Big Sky rope halters? I saw they have a “small”, “average” and “large” size so I’m curious as to how big the “small” is.

Or any other brand with a “cob” or small horse version.

Thank you!

I like the Double Diamond rope halter. They also come in various sizes, including cob, if you didn’t want to adjust it yourself.

Check out the Knotty Girlz halters on Amazon. They are amazing. I was never a rope halter fan, but needed something with extra bite for a couple of spoiled lesson ponies. Can’t beat the price or the quality! I use the small on them - they are 14 hand thick welsh ponies. I also have the cob size and use that on all the other horses that need a reminder to behave.

Shoot! I think I posted a couple of days ago but I don’t see it.

Check out Half Circle Ranch. They have hope halters in many sizes and styles (yearling to draft) , and many stiffness of ropes. I purchased a rope halter and lead from them about 4 years ago, I still use it (and the natural horsemanship trainer at the barn has used my halter on many horses who didn’t have a rope halter) and it is still great.

B&H Rope Halters. Great prices, great product. They sell cob sized rope halters, I have one for my small mustang. Fits great.

Julie Goodwin makes a rope halter for small horses. About $25, really nice quality, and it actually fits my Arab mare’s little head (including her dainty muzzle).

I am trying to learn to tie my own … not as easy as it looks. I finally just bought a cheap one. This one to be exact: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003M6V9Q8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I’ll let you know if it fits my smaller head horse. I think he is in the same boat and your horse, horse halter too big, cob halter tight.

Watch out for the Double Diamond. For some odd reason the put a little piece of metal on the end of the tie which can hit the horse in the eye. I have heard of a case where a horse was blinding when that end hit him in the eye.

Ive used Double Diamond halters for I don’t know how long and literally on hundreds of horses and never had the metal tip knock an eye out. Of course a freak accident, anything can happen.

Regardless of what brand of halter you use, use one that fits and learn to tie them correctly with the tail end pointing to the rear of the horse not his eye.
