I have questions about round pen footing. I’m in NE Ohio, which means it will only be used spring through fall. Right now it’s grass and it’s slippery in the morning before the dew dries and any time it rains, which is often. That means I can’t use it most of the time. So my questions are: 1. What type of material do I need that will dry quickly and maintain good footing? 2. How can I best keep it inside the round pen? 3. Do I need a barrier to keep grass and rocks from coming through? 4. About how much would it cost for a 60’ RP? I have $1200 to work with. 😄 Thanks for your help!
I have a Priefert round pen with sand. The bottom of each panel is solid and helps hold the footing in place. We cleared and leveled the ground prior to installing RP but did not put down a weed barrier. I don’t use it that often anymore but weeds haven’t been an issue. Sand dries very quickly so it might be something to consider for your situation.
60 ft diameter round pen has a surface area of 2827 sq/ft… a cubic yard of material (sand or whatever) is 27 cubic feet
if you were wanting 3 inches of coverage you need just about 26 yards of material
