I have a pair of spurs that I would like to use in a dressage show.
Are these legal to use?

Which show? Under which federation/association?
Dr120.10 says roweled spurs must be blunt/smooth and free to rotate.
Here is the Dressage Equipment booklet. https://www.usef.org/documents/competitions/2014/2014DressageEquipmentBooklet.pdf
There is a picture of a permitted spur that looks similar, you may want to check it out.

I do not think these would be show legal in Canada as the rowel is not coming out of the spur centered, the rowel is set high of center.
Plus, they look sharpish. The points on the rowel need to be dull.
No, not legal. Spurs for USEF Dressage competitions must be smooth
the rowel does look like its teeth are too pointed / sharp
you want to find a rowel with fewer teeth and those teeth should have rounded points
Depends on how ‘sharp’ the rowels are.
Horzgurl is incorrect - smooth rowels are only required for pony classes.
It would not surprise me if the TD were called to look at them, but I think it would be a judgment call as to whether or not they are illegal.
If you look on page 6 of the USEF document, the spur in question is legal.
Only blunt metal spurs (i.e., with no rowels), no longer than 3.5 cm
are permitted for FEI Pony Rider tests.
Thank you for letting me know. I looked at the USEF Rulebook, which does not show a picture. I thought blunt/ smooth meant that the rowel could have no “teeth.” I appreciate the clarification.
Yes, my first instinct was not legal, but when you see the example in the document
on the USEF web site it shows it as being legal, but I would be careful that it does not leave a spur mark, or blood. My horse would be much too sensitive for it. Also, it might be a good idea to show it to TD prior to using.

That USEF Dressage Equipmen booklet is a REALLY useful adjunct to the rule book. I only wish Eventing had something similar.
Actually the spurs in question are not severe and have never left a mark on my horse. I’ve tried other “legal” spurs that are too much for my horse, he just responds best to the small rowel spurs.
I’ve ridden with similar spurs and passed every equipment check.
Yeah, I’ve also ridden with those kind of spurs with no problems. Feel the points - if they feel really pokey, you have a problem. If they are blunt, you are fine. I am currently riding at shows with smooth rowels, but have used similar ones. And agree, I find the rowels much gentler on the horse - they roll instead of jab. I see a lot more spur marks on horses with fixed spurs that jab and grab. If you “drag” a rowel along the side, it just rolls along, and a fixed spur grabs the hair and pulls it out.
