RPSI standards

I know very little about this registry, where do they stand as far as strictness of approving mares and stallions in comparison to the other major verbands? I have much more familiarity with AHHA and GOV.

Thanks COTHers!

I have not been to an AHHA inspection. Have seen GOV and taken horses through AWR and Old/ISR as well as RPSI in the past…and would say it is about the same as those registries. Otto the inspector is a very friendly inspector aka very approachable and pleasant to deal with. He does like a good TB so I have used them in the past as my mares tend to be TBs and TB crosses.

I just took my cremello TB mare (White Beauty) to RPSI and GOV only a few weeks apart.

She earned premium status with RPSI. They have 7 categories. Breed and sex type, quality of conformation, correctness, walk, trot, gallop and overall impression.

GOV scored her a bit higher than RPSI giving her eight 8’s! With GOV she earned what would have been a premium score but GOV only gives out premium to Oldenburg mare. GOV has quite a few more categories because they breakdown conformation into parts. So they have Head, neck, saddle position, frame, forelimbs and hind limbs. Then you have the main categories of Breed and sex type, quality of conformation, correctness of gaits, impulsion and elasticity at trot, walk and general impression.

So they both scored her quite well and did appreciate a really nice quality Thoroughbred mare. She is in foal to Banderas so now I have two registration opportunities. I am leaning toward GOV at this point.

This was the first time I presented the same mare to both registries in the same year. I am sure other owners will chime in…

I’ve shown mares & foals to AHS, OldNA & RPSI; I’ve been using the latter the last few years because they come late in the year and are only 30 mins away. I guess I don’t have much “breed” loyalty.

I’ve found that Otto is very fair; he certainly has no color bias, in fact, I think he enjoys the louder colors . He score my Sempatico colt Gold Premium!

I think he is tougher over all on the mares; I found AHS to be very tough on non-Hann mares, but often rather lax with branded Hanns.

Otto tends to be fair across the board, I think. He has a practical bend as well…likes a well-made horse without a big nod to “fashion”.

They are generally easy and friendly to work with…my only beef is they take so dang long to get your paperwork back!!! Like forever!!!

But as far as grading horses, they seem to do a fair job.

PS I think their required score for approved stallions might be lower than AHHA or AHS, but not sure…
