rubber barn aisle pavers

If you have experience with these, what are pros and cons vs. concrete and is there a particular brand you like?

The obvious pro is traction. Mine were already in the barn when I bought my property. Concrete is less expensive and more durable.

I looked into these when we were renovating our barn.

Pros would be the beautiful look and increased traction/cushioning.

cons: cost & difficult to clean (my farrier has seen these and said they’re impossible to sweep clean)

I had a friend that put this in for wash stalls and the barn aisle. It was for her and her sister’s barn and cost was no object. The upside was it was very very nice - good cushion and no slipping. Downside - it was very expensive and they had to buy a vacuum for the barn to clean it because a blower didn’t work. If I win the lottery I might consider it…

I priced them out for a small aisle. Yikes! And, the ones I priced were 1 3/4 so I’d have to have pulled out the base and regraded/tamped my aisle to install. I went with mats. Material was 1/5 the cost. Nevermind I’d likely have had to hire out the paver install. I found a less deep product but still very salty and had to be glued down. I’ve also heard they are hard to blow or sweep.

I have rubber pavers in my barn. I chose them because they are nonslip. I was worried they’d be hard to clean but have found they are no problem using a brush for washing cars and soap and water. We installed the 1 3/4 inch pavers over concrete. For drainage, we drilled holes in the concrete every few feet (concrete was poured over 12 inches of gravel). I can hose down the aisle and it drains immediately.

We got ours from Amberway Equine. They are Pave Safe brand.

I installed them in my barn 10 years ago. I tore them out last year. It drives me nuts to not be able to get my aisle clean. I was amazed at how much dirt was under the pavers. Do a broom finish on a concrete aisle and save a ton of $.
