Ruffian, Personal Ensign's jocks on Zenyatta

Lot of good stuff here. A few things I didn’t know about Ruffian and the match race.

Good article - thanks for sharing.

That’s neat to hear the perspectives of the other jockeys. Thanks for sharing the article. I found this one linked at the bottom, an interview with Zenyatta’s exercise rider. Not sure if people have already seen it or not but it gives a neat perspective into her personality and history.

You MUST read Ruffian: Burning From the Start (by Jane Schwartz). It’s her biography written in fiction form. It’s the best book about Ruffian (I’m not the only one who agrees) and holds so much info that I personally didn’t know until I read it. It’s just awesome. There. Touting and advertising over. lol

It is a great book about her.

Jacinto…

Hi All,
Jacinto was a rare jockey when it came to talent. He could do almost anything with a horse. His mounts were varied and interesting. He not only rode the immortal Ruffian to the Filly Triple Crown in NY, he piloted Genuine Risk to the 1980 Kentucky Derby victory.

Sports Illustrated once asked if he would ever compare Ruffian and GR and he refused. Many years later when I interviewed Jacinto for ‘Genuine Risk’ (Eclipse Press, part of the Thoroughbred Legends series) I asked him again. Once again, he would not compare the two fillies. I can only begin to imagine what he thinks of Zenyatta…but he’ll never tell is my guess.

I’ll be honest, I’m a wreck coming into the Breeders Cup Classic. I adore Zenyatta and believe she is the best horse to run since Secretariat. But, I think Quality Road is a heckuva a horse. I just want everyone to come home safely.

BTW - Rosalita’s Wish ran third last week. I’m so proud.
