Rug or Mat for Grooming Stall at shows

I’ve seen folks use various types of rugs and mats in their grooming stalls and tack rooms at shows and am interested in purchasing one to help combat dirt. Stable floors are red clay. What type of material are the rugs? Any recommendations? I’ve also seen the roll up thin rubber mats for the grooming stalls but haven’t seen them to purchase. Any tips? Thanks!

We use just a woven outdoor rug that you can get at Home Depot.

Kinda like this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Foss-Hobnail-Taupe-6-ft-x-8-ft-Indoor-Outdoor-Area-Rug-CN19N40PJ1H1/202042703

We bring 4 of these for each grooming stall. For our tack room, we just have an indoor/outdoor rug. Target and World Market both have cute options in lots of colors if you’re looking to get fancy.

We use something like this http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rb-rubber-multi-mat-rolled-rubber-3-8-in-thick-sold-by-the-foot

Am I understanding you want this for home use? I’m not sure if this will help. It’s relatively narrow (4 foot). You may want something wider for permanent use.

Our grooming stall mats came from Dandy Products in Ohio. Bought them a few years ago and they look like new! I believe they have a website.

Fleet Farm has the rubber ones that are easy to roll up for transport. They come in 5’x8’ and 5’x10’.

How do you stop those indoor outdoor rugs from moving in the grooming stalls? The ones we have for our RV would never be stable enough for a horse to stand or move around on, especially with corks in.

We have rubber mats, the heavy ones that we move around with lead ropes. They’re heavy but work so well.

Any surface that gets caught up in your CAULKS is unsafe. You are asking for a disaster, IMHO. A scared horse can hurt itself or people. Best not to use lightweight carpeting or rugs. Yes people use them, but we never will.
