Thanks for posting that!

I really wish that USEF/USHJA would set it up so that you don’t have to download every single rule change proposal to figure out what they are. A brief statement about each would be appreciated. The Chronicle does that, but not for all of the rules.

Thank you @skydy for pointing out my lack of reading comprehension, below. Edited to remove proof of same.

I believe the rule is to allow them, not to prohibit them?

You are quite correct. Edited, thank you. I’m jet lagged, and I am now going to bed.

No sweat. Sleep well. :slightly_smiling_face:

The USEF breeds won’t go for some of these changes.

Allow only licensed veterinarians to administer shockwave therapy on competition grounds and prohibit shockwave from being administered within 12 hours prior to competition. Within three days preceding competition, shockwave can only be administered to the back and dorsal pelvis areas. All other uses are prohibited three days ahead of competition. The effective date of this rule would be March 1, 2025. (055)

why? Are they including PEMF and TENS in this? I’m confused

ETA Oops, never mind, I misread your post and thought pemf was being added! It does sound like this aligns with FEI protocol on shockwave

PEMF at certain frequencies is prohibited under FEI rules, they may just be aligning. Tens might be as well, but I only know about pemf

Shockwave can result in a short term analgesic effect for a few days after administration. I assume the new rule is intended to prevent people from using shockwave to mask pain that may be causing a horse to be otherwise unsound.

Good luck enforcing that one - they have yet to do a thing about it

Isn’t this already an option? Why is this a rule change?

Shockwave works on the basis of physical damage to tissues to stimulate the inflammatory response followed by a healing response. Imagine overusing that! Overuse would homogenize the tissues (like we do in lab work).
