?s about North Hills Hunt (Nebraska)

Hi all,

I’m a former Virginian who relocated to Nebraska (Omaha area) two years ago. I used to ride professionally in NoVA, but since moving to NE I more or less stopped riding and switched careers (now military). I’m looking to get back into riding, and one thing I’m pretty adamant about is eventually getting back in the hunt field.

I know the North Hills Hunt operates out of eastern NE, and I was wondering if anyone here had any info on the quality of the hunt, staff, territory, etc. I used to go out regularly with Piedmont and been out a few times with Snickersville, OCH, etc, so I’m interested to see how the different parts of the country compare. I was going to contact NHH through their website about getting involved, but if anyone has other leads I should follow, I would appreciate that info as well.

I’m hoping to get back in the saddle in a couple of weeks, and want to have a lease for the fall. Hopefully that will help with my horseless problem.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read. I appreciate any help you all could offer.

Contact Sam at Regg and Wally’s 402-332-0666. If that doesn’t work PM me and I’ll give you her cell number. I am from Nebraska but moved to Aiken about 18 mos ago. I didn’t hunt, but know the show people that also hunt and Sam has been with the hunt at least 25 years. She a great gal and would be very helpful as far as helping you find an appropriate lease and steer you to the right people. Tell her Marjean told you to call her for help.

Since I am not a hunt person, I can’t give you personal opinion about quality etc but I would assume it will not be as good as what I understand is fabulous hunting in VA, although I have also read write ups here in the Chronicle in years past from “east coasters” that have gone and hunted there as a guest and acted like they were pleasantly surprised.

They do have fun- I haven’t hunted there for gee, 3-4 years and so lost track of who is huntsman. But their Sand Hills country in Burwell is definitely something to see. Was also intending to hunt w/ them nearer Omaha last time out but weather cancelled the meet. I can put you in touch with an MFH and retired AF fellow who makes lots of journeys to hunt there.

equinedriver: thank you for the info! I was going to make a trip out to R&Ws when I get back in town anyway, so I’ll be sure to meet Sam and see what we can come up with.

Beverley, if you would PM me their info at some point, that’d be great (especially emails if they have them…I might be strange, but I feel odd calling strangers up out of the blue). I’m stuck TDY for a bit, but eventually I’d like to get in touch with several members if possible.

Thank you both so much!
