I’m sure someone will correct me if I am mistaken but it appears that the last A show in S. Arizona is ending today. The Desert International Arizona winter circuit (formerly HITS) shut down this year and now the fall series are finished. Jen Baltrus, DVM, should be given a medal for all her hard work over the past couple of years to revive and save these shows. So, for much of the west, it’s the coast or Colorado for your A horses shows.
Gosh, when I was a groom in the late 70’s and early 80’s, the Arizona circuit was huge. I knew a few trainers and riders who opted to go to the Arizona shows as opposed to Indio/Thermal. It’s too bad they are no more. New Mexico also had some A rated shows too. I am guessing they are gone too.
We haven’t had a rated show in the state of Oklahoma in three or four years now. A large schooling circuit, but no rated shows. Sad state of affairs.
