Sad situations that are going to be happening too much...

I got an infraction for insulting another member…so just how many did all of you get for your insinuations and insults?

I’m with you. And the addition of “just sayin’” when they know they’re not adding anything of value. ugh.

But if there’s any vigilante-ism going on in Maine, thanks for giving them another piece of rope to hang her with. After all, some kind COTHer has already pointed the neighbors to this thread…[/QUOTE]

Are you blaming me for exacerbating the conditions of her property? I haven’t done anything you need to settle down. Like I’m some great detective that’s turning up clues for the AC officers. LOL

The AC doesn’t need to contact the owner of the animals nor get a court order if they want to seize animals in Maine. Page 100, section 5-A of the Maine Animal Welfare Laws http://www.maine.gov/agriculture/aw/documents/2009-ANIMAL-WELFARE-LAW-BOOK.pdf

Not seeing how the conspiracy of the AC taking them without notifying her. They don’t have to if they think the animals should be seized. Not that they should have, but they didn’t break any laws doing so.

I attempted to call her when this thread first came up, but the numbers I was given by the only person I could think of that might have them, were not correct. The cell # was wrong and the home number never picked up.

Luckily, another poster that I know contacted me and she headed down there this morning.

If she cares to, I’m sure she will share with the CotH world what she knows, but it certainly isn’t my place.

For those who are concerned, I will say that J is safe (as possible) at her home. That may allow some measure of comfort to those who were wondering.

But if the farmsitter was, indeed, coming every day, why didn’t s/he notify PP after the notice was posted on her door?

I don’t know what to believe since I don’t know the facts of the matter, but I seriously doubt there was any kind of “set up” to confiscate PP’s horses.

As the wee hours of the night have a tendency to bad things to already contentious threads, we’re going to put a temporary hold on this one until tomorrow. Perhaps after the holiday, when PP has the opportunity to interface with the authorities, there will be some sort of resolution to or clarity added to the situation.

Thanks,

My view as a fellow Maine-ah

I’ve been lurking here - reading this thread & just felt like putting my experience on here.

Back in 2001 I was living in AZ and looking for a dressage prospect. Being originally from Maine - I was searching out some breeders in my home state and came across PP’s website for her farm. I was quite impressed with the foals she had and the pics of her mares and stud. I contacted her and, since I was making a trip in a few weeks, planned on stopping by. My mother lived in the same town so I had a rough idea of where her farm would be but couldn’t for the life of me figure out exactly where on that road she would be as the website portrayed quite a bigger breeding and dressage facility.

Well…I arrived in state and headed out that way to see the foals. Drove right by the place at least 3 times until I realize that was it. I saw sagging hot tape, weeds everywhere, no barn to speak of and junk everywhere. I did not stop in and drove back to my mom’s.

In 2003 I moved back to Maine for good and lived in Dedham about 5 miles from this ‘farm’. I can tell you the shape of the property just got worse. I never saw the horses out and about in the larger hot taped area (I wouldn’t call it a pasture). There are no lean-to’s or shelter to speak of & just the round pens which is where I always saw the horses. To date - this property is in awful shape. The round pens where the horses are kept look like they are never mucked out. I’ve seen some people say she has 8 acres and I seriously doubt that. If there is 8 acres, the majority is thickly wooded as the ‘pasture’ area is about 2-3 acres.

Yes, maybe the horses were not in horrible shape…yet. With no water it wouldn’t take long. Who knows what quality the round bales were too. Looking at their coat condition I’m not very impressed. I have a gelding and his coat looks nothing like these horses. Yes, he gets muddy and does not get brushed everyday but his coat doesn’t have the ‘ratty’ look that the seized horses do.

I usually give people the benefit of doubt but in this instance, where she does have a prior convicition and AC has been involved previously, it just sounds wrong. Especially since PP has been posting about going to WEG, riding and buying items. If she has been struggling perhaps she should have leased the horses (that way she could have retained ownership if she didn’t want to loose them). Just doesn’t make sense to me and makes me sad and disgusted that this is a fellow Mainer. (and Dedham isn’t really ‘backwoods Maine’ - only about 15 minutes to Bangor - a large city)

Please don’t crucify me - these are just my personal observations and opinions.

Update On Dedham Animal Abuse

Update On Dedham Animal Abuse
by Rob Poindexter - October 12th 2010 04:29pm - Read more Local News
Dedham - Now an update on a story we first told you about last week involving alleged animal abuse and neglect in Dedham.

State District Humane Agent Chrissy Perry says state officials obtained a search warrant today for the trailer on Bald Mountain Drive in Dedham where authorities say the abuse took place.

Last Wednesday, we reported that 6 horses and 2 cats had been rescued from that residence. Since then, a litter of kittens has also been rescued from the property.

Neighbors told state animal welfare officers the animals were routinely left for weeks at a time with no food or water and no shelter during the winter.

Animal welfare officials identified the owner of the horses and the property as Jean Marie Ahearn. Authorities say Ahearn already is facing one animal cruelty charge that has not been to trial yet and will most likely be facing additional charges.

Neighbors tell us they believe Ahearn has left the state.

I haven’t posted but been lurking on the thread. I thought it was pulled when I couldn’t find it.

Anyhow… I think we’re all a little “WTF?” to various degrees. I don’t know how to explain it any better. I truly hope, no matter what the real story is, that PP, itty bittys and her horses get the help they need.

Am I surprised- no. So many people post on public forums pretending to be what they are not- many times on purpose. It’s the perceived anonymous nature of cyber space.

Horsekeeping practices from one person to the next are as different as snowflakes. But one thing sticks out- if you chastise PP for her horsekeeping practices, you better not be holding a double standard to others keeping horses (thinking of some of those ‘dealers’ in Maine- why can ACO go after them?) .

Well, it is Tuesday. Does PP get her animals back, or not?

I’ve not posted at all. All I have to say with the “update” is they must take all the neighbor says as gospel. She looked like a real winner. Whether PP is guilty or not. That neighbor is an idiot.

HA! If only life were that simple!

The news reports are citing a previous charge, which is pending. That is not a conviction.

Holy Moly.

Well, I would love to believe that the neighbor is full of it, but given the fact that there were pending charges, I am more concerned.

Also, if “Jean Marie” has left the state, perhaps she went to her parents. I hope she has her dog, if she can care for him, because she sure as hell needs someone.

Where is Dalpal? Anyone close to PP who has heard anything else?

Did not know this thread was open again, posted news update below thread…

What a total crock.

To say that there are two sides to every story has never been more true.

A litter of kittens? Were the Itty Bitty cats spayed/neutered? Where did a little of kittens come from? I thought it was just the grown cats and horses left there for the WEG trip.

Where did a litt[er]le of kittens come from?

You know … the birds and the bees

LOL, wise arse!
