Roger…I see you are reading this thread.
YOU must have her number. PM me with it so I can try to help her out. Someone needs to.
You at least owe her that much.

I really hate to say this but it was my son.
He was pretty much still a teenager at the time. Hard lessons learned.
JGHIRETIRE, I have had the exact same. SPCA refused to even do anything in one case (the only one necessitating SPCA, imo). Makes it pretty darn hard to trust and leave your animals in someone else’s care, even when everything checks out and you do your best to ensure adequate care in your absence :(

a person VERY VERY close to me left for a short three day vacation, entrusting the care of the horses to a horse sitter
one of the horses choked firmly on the first load of hay put out on the first day…he remain in that condition, until the owners return and emergency vet care three nights later
his inability to swallow, inability to drink and green dribble coming out his nose, as well as his increasingly tucked up appearance totally escaped the twice a day checks
for three days

dear god… stories like these are why DH has to drag me from my house for trips… and why I don’t sleep while I’m not home.
When was the last time PP posted here - or anyone from this board saw or talked to her? She must know what happened - somehow - and I am very concerned for her. She must be freaking out. Something about all of this is below the belt. Confiscating her animals when she is believed to be out of town. I more believe the neighbors have some kind of agenda.
I’m glad DB has posted here to validate that PP isnt a nut case. I have not met her in person, but have seen pictures and have had several discussions with her. I can not imagine she would leave her horses without water, PERIOD. This story does NOT add up. I would like to find her pet sitter and throttle them.
She IS at WEG, she’s posted pictures of her riding in her outfits. I’m sure she’s got to know about this by now and probably frantic. Instead of bashing her, i hope this brings people out of the woodwork to help her. You better believe i would if i were closer! Wherever those horses are, i would be sitting there making sure they were getting the best of care while there. Some friends of mine had one of their ponies die in the care of the SPCA while awaiting the court date to get them back over a stupid misunderstanding as well.
I love how they show the cluttered spots of the farm and an empty feed bag like it’s a sign of major abuse. I’m sorry, but a single lady with physical issues isnt going to have a pretty farm.
Hope PP gets to sue the pants off the pet sitter who let them go without water.
I see horses generally in good weight, hooves trimmed, and the neighbor in the video sounding like she has no clue and likes attention. How sad for PP if she tried to leave them in the care of a sitter and this happened. Hopefully somebody knows her outside of this BB and can get ahold of her, if she doesn’t know what’s happened yet.
I have had a bad experience with a sitter for my dogs before who didn’t come several times a day as we agreed upon. Came home to urine and feces all over the house… can you imagine if this is simply a case of somebody not doing what she paid them for here? What a shame.
I would imagine if she knows, she would be on the road, with a long, upsetting drive.
Except she flew there. Hopefully she was able to change her plane ticket to get back.
So…did “Sayitaintso” take the time and to register this alter just to “out” PP? How odd. And utterly unkind. I wonder what the personal history is there?

Thats exactly what I thought. Could this be our “Disgruntled Neighbor”?
I suspect pissy neighbors and an overzealous animal control officer as well as a farm sitter who has not shown up. I hope it can be resolved somehow and that it’s just a huge misunderstanding.
A disgruntled neighbor could easily empty out the water troughs and then call AC.
I just got off the phone with Mao, a COTH poster, who has horses at the WEG at the Native village. Anyway, she’s seen and chatted with Pintopiaffe there. She says that Jaime is STILL AT WEG and probably has no idea what is going on at home. She’s making phone calls now and is going to try to have someone contact her. This is clearly a case of the farmsitter not coming or something.
So please, everyone, withhold judgment until Jaime can explain to all of us what is going on. I am pretty sure from what Mao said that Jaime has no idea that this has happened at home. What a nightmare for her.

Why wouldn’t they just give them water since they looked to be in otherwise good condition until they can locate the owner and figure out what happened? Seems like that would be a much better use of resources.
I think to get out of this mess, she is going to have to provide a name for said barnsitter that didn’t show, and why she hasn’t been in contact with said barnsitter.

This as all that I could think of as well. Seems a lot easier to drag out a hose than to bring trucks and trailers and start spending time and $$.
As someone who has had a couple of pet sitters (not horses yet, thank goodness) flake over the years and leave cats, dogs and hens to fend for themselves for WAY too many days, I’m withholding judgement until we hear her side of the story.
I’ve also experienced the cranky neighbor issue - my grandparents neighbors called the authorities on them several times because they were the last farm left in a wealthy suburban area. Never was there ever a neglect issue there, but people that don’t like you can do really crappy things. Fighting false allegations can be just as big a PITA as a valid legal argument. And if she doesn’t have many resources (financial or health), accepting and paying a previous citation may have made more sense than fighting it.
Good for you Sharon! What a nightmare. It has made me rethink my approach to leaving my barn, even though I have great workers. Much more frequent check ins will be done.
Here’s hoping things turn out okay. What a weird mess. None of it seems to make any sense.
The horses look mostly fine IMO.
The property…well let’s just say that fencing and junk laying around does not look like anything an experienced horse person would ever keep a horse near/in/around. And no, FM or whatever is no reason for piles of junk and bad fencing. Looks dangerous. However that could also be only one part of the property filmed and the rest could be fine.
The neighbor interviewed looked ridiculously giddy about being on camera and being some sort of savior. Creepy times 10 IMO.
Possibly neighbors cheesed off and vindictive over loose horses (understandably loose if that’s what their fencing looks like)?
Farm sitter…I can not see anyone in their right minds leaving without an agreement with someone to come by and check water and horses over once a day. So I’ve got to think at this time that PP had a sitter lined up who possibly hasn’t been showing up? Or…the article states that PP was using a generator instead of public utilities. Is it possible the sitter didn;t know how to run the generator to make the well pump work? Because no power means no water.
Has there been no communication between PP and sitter?
Was anyone taking care of all those cats? Leaving food out and litterboxes for a long weekend is one thing. For 2 weeks?
Just too many weird things. But I do have to say those horses are far from “skin and bones” and like NJR has stated…if there isn’t any water at the time of the visit then SPCA has to seize in many states. Plus that neighbor just jangled every single Freak Alarm I have.
Hope someone gets in touch with PP. Poor judgement or poor sitter…PP needs to know what’s going on. However I’m sure this will panic the heck out of her, as it would any horse owner.
I am hopeful that there is a good explanation for all of this. I have seen Animal Control go after innocent people enough times to not believe a THING that they claim. I have also seen neighbors rally together to drive away horse owners who had been there long before the city folks moved in because they did not like the smell or fencing or what have you. I have no doubt that this could be the case here.
ETA: I was posting at the same time as MB. Agree with most of her post. Very, very weird. I am curious about the two cats they found-- I thought she had a whole Itty Bitty cat herd?
