Saddle fit for a downhill young horse...

I have two horses, one is 17yr old the other is a 4 1/2 yr old. Both are QH. I got a Tucker wide Old West Saddle that i just love.

My older horse sliced his foot on something early Oct, so was on stall rest for 7 weeks. He healed fine and is back out in the pasture 24/7.

I got my new saddle about the time he got hurt. So, had been mostly riding my young horse, Chex. I use a Diamond Wool saddle pad.

I just got used to it and find it pretty comfortable.

Well, since my older horse was healed, I have been riding him some too. My saddle feels like HEAVEN on him. It sits me back perfectly, so thinking I may need to readdress the saddle fit on Chex again.

The saddle actually fits Chex, but it does tip me forward.

I need to allow wither clearence, so it can be a pad that fills in around his wither.

The white you see on his wither is from a Medium tree saddle that was too tight. Got that problem solved.

All I can find are saddle pads that have some sort of kindey shaped pading or padding on the sides. Is there anything for a WESTERN saddle to LIFT up the front of the saddle that does not fill in around the wither to make the tree tighter?

When to young horses start to even up? Am I screwed that he will always be downhill, or do I have a good chance that he will even up? I sticked his wither and butt, was about 2 1/2 inches difference, so he needs to grow a bit in order TO even up.

Any suggestions? I can live w/it. I have gotten used to him and feel comfortable in the saddle. It is just when I ride my older guy, I just LOVE my saddle a LOT more. Thanks!

May not even up, and if saddle is tipping you forwards that will be worse on back too.

Looking at the sweat pattern, I am wondering too if saddle is not too far forwards as it looks to be impeding shoulder.

I’ve not seen anything either that lifts up front, that won’t pad in wither area, maybe someone else knows of something.

what about a thinline western pad with shims?

Cashel makes a wedge pad that is thicker in the front than in the back. That might help.
