That’s weird, the Renaissance saddles are all built on the same tree so if he fits one he should fit them all. Are you working with a brand rep now or an independent fitter? That’s annoying that the rep won’t travel to you for flocking.
I’m working with a rep long distance (started out looking for consignment options- got recommended Renaissance). She told me the F2S would probably bridge a bit and the M in latex might be a little curvy (an issue we had run into with nearly every other saddle we’ve tried). Our “local” rep wasn’t available for over a month but now it’s more like 3 weeks out. So I’m trying to decide if I send the F back and wait to get the “local” rep out vs. keep the F to have something in my budget that my horse likes.
Had a semi-independent fitter/Amerigo and Equipe rep look at the Renaissance and liked the fit but thought it hit him a little farther down his back than she preferred. That’s where the Equipe came from.
It’s a 17 with a +1 tree I believe. Fits me a little tight (17.5 in Voltaire/Forestier/CWD)
Mine is also a 17”, and a little deeper seat so probably not for you. My rep has some 17.5” available for trial.
The fit of the EKGO is slightly more curved at the back end than the 26 for horses shorter in the loin and is better for taller withers than some of the other models. This demo may be your size. My saddle is the 17” with +2 tree listed on the site. She also has a larger seat EK26.
Agree with this description of the fit of the EKGO. I am on the hunt for one on medium tree (I have a medium wide) and really love the saddle. If anyone has a lead on a 17.5 medium (ideally with a +1 panel) please reach out!
I believe they finally are making the newer trees adjustable in the carbon line, so if you see a newer +1, they might be able to make it work for you. You can also send your saddle to Italy and have the tree swapped out.
Or hey this first hit shows a +1 panel and M tree at MD tack exchange
Thanks, I saw that one too and got excited initially but it’s a +1 (medium wide) tree which is what I have now (well, I have a +1 tree and a +1 panel to be specific). I priced out the tree swap too and it’s just enough money that it doesn’t really make sense to do.
I’m kind of in flux with my horses right now so it makes the most sense to keep the +1 tree anyway and look for a medium tree to add to my collection
@awaywego No the first number is the panel (+1) and second is the tree (M). Mine is M +2 meaning medium panel +2 tree. I have a custom ordered dressage saddle with +2 tree that is stamped the same way.
I measured mine (stamped +1 +1) and it’s 5 inches at the gullet opening, just like the ebay/MD Tack saddle I really think that one is correctly listed as a medium wide.
@IPEsq, have you tried any of the Amerigo saddles? I only sat in one and I didn’t immediately love it.
The tree points are a bit farther back on most Equipes, so I’d go by the stamp, not an arbitrary measurement, personally.
I did try Amerigo for one of my horses (who loves the Equipe Allegra). Tried the DJ and he hated it. Also tried a dressage saddle which was ok for 2 rides then a nope from him. I didn’t love the DJ either but the demo wasn’t the right size for me.
You are right - it is a medium tree. I confirmed with an Equipe rep. She will be out my way in a few weeks so I’m torn on waiting for her to do a fitting or just going for this one.
I rode in the same saddle for 20ish years and never thought too much about it. I wish I could go back to that
I think if you go thru their website instead of eBay you can do a trial. Maybe see if you can time it for when your rep is there to put into the mix of saddles to look at? The price is pretty low on that one.
I ended up keeping the Equipe! Jumping around in it, it seems to keep me right where I need to be.
Was thinking about just going for it as I have an independent fitter who is just down the road from me who I could ask to look at the saddle. But the weather forecast for the foreseeable future after today could be a real problem in trying a saddle So I’m not sure what I’ll do. It’s so hard to time a trial around weather challenges this time of year. Clearly the answer is to just ship myself and the horse to Florida
I haven’t gotten a demo from that shop specifically, but when I have tried saddles from others, they sometimes will work with you on a longer trial if you ask for it.
Can confirm that a lot of shops will extend trials (ask me how I know ) especially for things like weather/work/sickness. I’d ask before ordering, but I took 4 saddles on trial from 4 different places and all extended trials for me due to work/the holidays/illness.
