Any recommendations for a independent saddle fitter who will come to my place and tell me how my saddles are fitting my horses?
Two years ago I had a point billet break on my special order (bought on consignment) 1999 Albion dressage saddle, and sent it to Patty Barnett in Barkhamstead after several recommendations from this site. She took over Gary Severson’s business (the Saddle Doctor). She replaced all 4 billets, including converting the point billets to nylon anchors. Totally reflocked with wool and it fit fine. Also, one of the head nails had lost its logo button and she replaced them with a pair I managed to get my hands on. While she had the saddle open, she cleaned and conditioned it, which got rid of most of the creak. Turned it around in a week and the price was fair, maybe around $325 plus UPS. The quality of her work was excellent. I don’t know how much travelling she does, but I certainly would not hesitate to use her again.
The fact that Gary Severson trained her and recommends her would be enough for me to use her without hesitation.
Definitely, Patty.
Patty is not doing fittings anymore. Just repairs.
I use The Refined Equine.
Someone told me she wasn’t doing repairs anymore either? That’d be great if she indeed still is.
Smith-Worthington in Hartford will do re-stuffs and repairs on saddles of any make. They don’t have a fitter, but will work from tracings and pictures.
Anthony Cooper has been recommended to me but I’m not sure that he travels (you might have to haul to him).
Patty sounds like exactly the kind of person I’m looking for! Sent her a note and will see what she says about if she’s still doing fittings. Thanks!!
I saw Gary a few weeks ago and he didn’t mention that she’d stopped working.
Patty’s not doing fittings but it sounds like she does do repairs and such still.
Recommends Deb Fabiani at Arbitrage. Thoughts?
Deb Fabinani is awesome. I had the privilege of working with both Deb and Patty this summer. They both have a wealth of knowledge.
Deb is an excellent resource for fittings and I highly recommend her. She is professional, punctual and above all else a genuinely kind person.
She’s just passed her SMS qualifications and is officially a Society of Master Saddlers Qualified Saddle Fitter.
I am currently working with Deb as well! She is great and has you and your horse’s interest at heart. Highly recommend!
I just thought I would update to say Deb Fabiani has passed her QSF exam this past spring and is now a QSF with the Society of Master Saddlers. Another feather in her already talented cap.
Huh… I’ve never used them but The Refined Equine has been to a few barns while I"m working there. Seems popular.

Just don’t ask for suggestions on horse retirement farms.
