Saddle Fitter - NNJ

Hello all - I’m looking for a new saddle for my horse. My current one is a hand me down that doesn’t fit him comfortably. I’ve been riding bareback, which we both love, but I’d like to get a decent English saddle.

I’m an advanced beginner and would like a saddle that helps keep me in place. I borrowed a used Passier dressage saddle several years ago and LOVED it, but unfortunately it wasn’t for sale. I prefer a deep seat that makes me feel very secure.

I’m just a recreational rider - low level ring work and trail riding and am struggling to find the right saddle. Tack shops near me (just outside NYC) only seem to sell new and I think that a good quality, used saddle would be a better option. My budget is under $1k so I know my options are limited. Would also be great to find a saddle fitter to help me, as I don’t have expertise in this area. I’m afraid of Craigslist for that reason. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

I recently used http://www.dutchessbridlesaddle.com/ and she was fantastic. I would give her a call before having her out to see if she would have anything in your budget.

With this budge and the difficulty finding what you want, I would stick to consignment shops that offer things in your budget with a trial. I would be aware of any “restocking” costs that might come with trying saddles from these places.

I just bought a dressage saddle from a woman on the facebook group “Dressage Saddles For Sale and Wanted.” She happened to be local and gave me a one-week trial, but it’s pretty rare for individuals to offer trials.
