Saddle fitters in Arizona ... Suggestions for a unfit medium narrow TB

It is hard to saddle shop in Arizona. In Tucson, we have no English tack shops. There is one, Greenway, in Phoenix, but they don’t have used saddles. We have found a couple locally owned used saddles for sale; however, they may need to be reflocked to fit the mare well.

Anyone know of a saddle fitter, repairer, reflocker in Arizona?

If you have any suggestions for good starter dressage saddlers for a medium narrow thoroughbred, I’d appreciate it. She is quite unfit, so she will probably fill out to a medium tree.

I live in the Phoenix metro area and have to send my saddles out for adjustments. I use David Gilpin in Utah or Kristin Vliestra in CA. I am not aware of any good fitters who are local to AZ. If you are interested, I do have a 17.5 medium tree Custom saddle for sale. PM if interested.

Sarah Boothe, Custom Saddlery from CA was in Phx last week, fitting and adjusting saddles. She had a trailer full of saddles. I tried measuring and sending away for a saddle from Trilogy a long time ago, did not work and expensive shipping it back.

I know people never want to hear this, but I’ve been happy with my Wintec Pro Dressage. The Isabell is also a great saddle. They don’t fit every horse and rider, but their adjustability makes it a lot more likely that you will be able to make it work (as opposed to the never ending cycle of trying saddle after saddle…).

Given that your horse is unfit, your local resources are limited, and you’re looking for a starter saddle, it may be a really good option.

The resale value on them is decent, too. Obviously they don’t retain their value like a high quality leather saddle, but there’s always a demand of people looking for used ones.

My experience with CAIR has even been fine thus far. I always keep it in the back of my mind that I may need to pay to have the saddle flocked someday, but so far there’s been no discernible issues.

Noelle from Tack Etc., not sure if Phillip Kast is still fitting but I believe he is.

Phillip might be 480-600-8077

also, there is a used tack shop with saddles you can take on trial. North Phoenix.

I’m trying to figure out how you posted this, because I thought we were talking while this posted.

But helpful information for those of us in the Tucson tack wasteland.

Yup!

Thanks everyone. I’m writing for a friend who is an adult re-rider, who has not yet discovered these forums!

Shout out to my Tucson neighbors!
