Saddle for short backed horse?

I had a lovely McCall all-around that fit my QH mare until last year, when she decided to turn into a hoss and sprout linebacker shoulders.

She has a short back, average withers, and big shoulders. I have yet to try an off-the-rack saddle that accommodates all that, but I don’t have deep enough pockets to get something custom made.

Any suggestions on a style or brand I should be looking at? She’s a pretty utilitarian horse, so the saddle doesn’t need to be discipline specific. Are Arabian saddles the way to go?

Try a Courts Miss Rodeo America model. See if a store near you carries Courts. My mare has huge shoulders for a little mare. This is saddle is a great fit, tons of flair in the shoulders. We now have several in the family now fitting hard to fit horses. Less than $2000, more like $1800? Courts takes saddles to big events, check with them if they will be near you this spring. I have no idea if you are near Denver, but thats a possibility.

We had a grade QH gelding built like that. We found a used Y-L saddle, wade style, that fit him like a glove.

They’re quite spendy new (custom made) but we were able to find a used one through http://www.kandssaddlery.com/
