Saddle measurement in centimeters

I am looking at some used saddles for my propane tank of a pony (he’s a horse, I call them all ponies). Some brands, like Duett have centimeter measurements in addition to seat size. Can someone clue me in to where this measurement is taken? It seems indicate the width of the tree.

TIA for any assistance.

This is where Stubben measures:

2.54cm = 1"

There’s no standard on how to measure a saddle’s width. There’s no standard where the felt dot is on the underside of the front panel.

And yes, it’s a measure of the width of the tree, but it’s only usefulness is in determining if the next size up or down is a better fit for your horse (assuming the overall shape is correct).

Some might know different saddles enough to know that a 39cm Prestige is roughly the equivalent of a 37cm Duett, for example.

What you can’t do is say “My horse fits in a 39cm Prestige, therefore a 39cm Duett will fit”

cm measurements are only useful when you are comparing saddles of the same brand because every brand takes the measurement in a different place.

It is also sometimes not even useful in the same brand between models depending on the head shape. You really need to know the head shape and how they are measuring

I wish they would give this measurement in degrees instead of cm or just narrow/med/wide. Like a 98deg tree point on a 4in front gullet gives me a ton more information than a 13cm tree on a 4in gullet. It’s still not everything, but it’s more.

90* in what area? 4" across what point in the gullet?

I am guessing @jonem004 is suggesting how western and how Stubben measures. The gullet is constant and the bar/point degrees can vary. The second image in this snip.
