Saddle Nameplates

I’m thinking of getting a nameplate put on my saddles.

Do you put your horses name, or your last name?

I don’t enjoy my last name, was thinking of maybe a monogram.

What do you have?

I have my first and last name.
I’ve seen:

First initial, last name
First, middle and last initials for monogram
I’ve seen horse’s name (lesson barn w/many school saddles)

I used my whole name - first & last.

Saddleplate was mainly for ID as in “No, that is my Crosby PDN, not yours.”

If you don’t want to do that a monogram would work the same way,

I don’t have one anymore. When I did, it was my full name. If you don’t like your last name, how about your initials? Or if you’d like your horse’s name, why not? I’d say do whatever you feel comfortable with.

I got my last name in an awesome script design from Swanky Saddle. http://www.swankysaddle.com/#!product/prd1/2886347441/script-name-saddle-plate

Love love love it!

I was going to suggest the monogram plates from Swanky Saddle!

I used my 1st name, the letter N as a middle initial and then my horse’s barn name…so looked like a full name.

I like that idea.

For a long time now I have been contemplating getting a name plate on my saddle, but I couldn’t decide between my name or my horse’s name. And if I wanted to just do my first name and last initial, or what. I too really don’t like my last name, plus I am paranoid about people trying to track me down with bad intentions (if you google my full name you can find my neighbor’s address and I can’t seem to get that information to go away, scary!).

I new a lady who named her saddles. She said her husband named his cars so she could name her saddles. They were… A** Kisser and Momma’s Sofa.

I always put my name. Years ago when I got my my first saddle it was considered bad luck to put a horse’s name on the saddle. The superstition was, you might jinx the horse’s good health/soundness.

When I was a kid I had a saddle plate with my first and last name on it. Since then, I’ve never gotten another one, but I think you can put whatever you want on there. I bought a used saddle with a plate that says “YODER”. I’m guessing that was the horse’s name.

I love that Swanky Saddles one but my name is too long… :frowning: I have too many horses to use a horse’s name.

Yoder could be a last name, I knew some folks with that last name. The son is in prison now for bank robbery so maybe they didn’t need a saddle. kidding not kidding! wish I was, he was a good kid when we were growing up

Hahah this is amazing!

I contacted Swanky, they won’t do a mock up with my initials. My concern is my initials won’t flow. BLH, don’t exactly flow for a monogram.

I may put my horses name on the saddle then, His initials are HAM lol.
Wouldn’t mind naming the saddles though either.

Interesting to see the new types of saddle plates and ideas of what to put there.

My old saddle still has a small, neat little brass plate on the back of the cantle with my name on it, 40+ years old.

Made to order western saddles are tooled with the name on the cantle or below it on the back, or a silver plate screwed on the cantle, with the name in all kinds of silver scrolling, many of those just initials or first name or nick names, rarely the whole name.
Or a horn cap with an initial or brand tooled into it, or a silver cap with those.

The newer scroll names for English saddles look nice.

You can put whatever you want. A friend put her nickname on her saddle plate.

I love the monogram but I don’t have a middle initial so it would just look dumb. Makes me very sad…

ladyB

you could put “B. HAM”

lol!

maybe
BLH + HAM = Sandwich? good saddle name?

I say go with your gut. the point of saddle plates are for identification. My dressage saddle was once owned by Stephen Bradley. It has his mount’s name on the back - “From”
I’m a traditionalist though. I think the monogram ones are fancy and pretty, but I am partial to the rectangular plates - i feel like they would never be “faux pas”
