Saddle Pad Embroidery

Hey guys!

This is definitely the most vain reason to make an alter. BUT, I have no idea if the person this is a gift for is a member, so I don’t want to ruin it. And my normal name is pretty obvious ;).

I sold my heart horse due to finances and time. I always did stuff for his birthday, and his new owner asked me to come and hang out with them on his big day. I want to get him a present, so I was thinking about maybe an embroidered saddle pad. Except I’ve never had or bought one! Any good ideas for cute ones (his owner is an older teenager) or where to buy them? Their colors are navy and white, and he’s an OTTB. I need it relatively quick, too.

Or any other cute present ideas for him? Thanks for your fashion help!

okay… putting myself in her shoes (as a 17 yo owner of an OTTB and my colors are navy/black/baby blue/white… my horse’s birhday was January 28 and our colors aren’t exactly the same, so i know it’s not me  )

I would personally love an emboridered saddle pad… a nice, pretty, white one with navy trim and either 1) my trainer’s (team’s) logo 2) my initials or 3) my horses show name in the corner. (or navy with white emboridery…)

http://www.doversaddlery.com/dovers-custom-competition-saddle-pad-with-trim/p/X1-1967/cn/4696/ (either combo on this one…)

http://www.doversaddlery.com/classic-iii-two-color-dressage-saddle-pad/p/X1-19315/cn/4696/ (either on this one as well…)

unfortunately, i don’t know anywhere but Dover to order such things online… and they don’t do “rush” very well… how soon do you need it? You may have to buy one at a local tack store and take it to an embroiderer (some alteration places do this)

best of luck!! that’s really sweet of you to do that

SmartPak! They have some great options, and I’m quite certain they have navy and ----- pads.

2nd SmartPak. They do embroidery http://www.smartpakequine.com/ProductClass.aspx?productclassid=9505&cm_vc=Search

Yes, I think I am definitely ordering from SmartPak. But I have no idea what to actually get embroidered!

I currently have a navy blue pad with white and blue piping in my cart (but maybe just a plain navy one would be better). I was thinking doing her first name on one side with the horse jumping through the horseshoe (looks like the little guy!) and the horse’s show name on the other. Both in white in the more modern cursive. Or that might be overkill (but I’m all about overkill )?

Nothing wrong with overkill!

I ordered a good friend a SmartPak pad for her new guy - got his name Finnegan with a four leaf clover over it on the left side. I wanted something she could show him in - so got the classic white with embroidery on only one side.

Personally - I like “non-horsey” embroidery that ties in with the name (Finnegan came from his Irish ancestor, thus the clover  ) and the horse name OR owner monogram.

Good luck!

Same Idea…

I’m doing this as a present for my BO. She JUST bought some really cute pads, so I’m stealing one or two and getting “Major”, her horse’s name, on one side of each.

While I’m there, I’m getting a “W” on both sides of a pad for my own horse. His name is long enough that I think it would look funny, and I haven’t decided whether or not to change my name when I get married… so I figured I shouldn’t do my initials.

or, just buy whatever saddle pad you like and take it to a local embroiderer. Might be quicker to do it that way, since I know of some people who have had issues with the Smartpak embroidery.

Very cute idea though! I’m sure she will appreciate it very much. I know I would.

I recommend SmartPak. They have stood behind my embroidery issue I had, and they made it right!!!
Depending on where your located, it wont take that long to get the product.

Thanks guys!

I did order a saddle pad from SmartPak. I ordered it with 3 day shipping, and the service rep said they rush orders on embroidery that have expedited shipping, so hopefully it will come on time! It has his name with a horse jumping through a horse shoe (that has his coloring) with his name on it. His name is not one that has a definitive shape that can go with it so I figured that was cute enough! It’s kind of long though, so hopefully doesn’t look too weird. To get embroidery on both sides, they charge an extra $10 so I skipped it. I hope he likes it :D!

Oh jeeze, I’m an idiot, and I logged in under my real name. Tatum, if you find out about this, act surprised .

His name is obviously Catch Me If U Can (“Chase”).

He turns 11 on Tuesday so hopefully it makes it on time! And that makes me feel so old-- I bought him when he just turned 3 and I was 13!

LOL, you can delete your posts! Just click “edit” and then “delete”.

I’ve been on this forum for 8 years, and I didn’t know you could delete. Sad .

Wow. DUH, me. Smartpak!

I just bought a new horse in February and as a present to us both I had a custom baby pad made for us through an Ebay store in our colors (brown with pink) and her name embroidered on it (barn name, not show, it’s long). It’s SO CUTE! It’s too pretty to use it on a white yak looking wanna-be right now, but I’m excited to use it for XC schooling and fun things this summer! My trainer is going to pee herself when she sees it though! Tee hee!
Just do a search on Ebay for custom pads, there are people that do it. Mine only cost $14.95, completely custom with unusual colors. It is a thin baby pad though but it’s adorable!

what about WDT?

Quite Random;

I have followed the story of you and Wee Dee Trr for a while. Love, love, love the name. What about WDT on his pad instead of just “W” Any horse that interesting merits a more interesting monogram,no?

local embroidery shop

I have always bought saddle pads in whatever colors I wanted and then taken them to a local place to get embroidered. The local place has so many more options for thread color, font, number of letters, etc. A lot of the tack stores online just let you do initials, or black thread, etc. Check your yellow pages, and I’m sure you can find a place in your town that will do it, and the turn around time is usually pretty quick.

Absolutely this! My local embroidery shop provides all this too. I can choose font and size, tape off the area I want it in, tell them if I want it angled, pick from LOTS of different colors of threads (including metallic!), etc. They charge $8 for a saddle pad, and are usually done in 3 days.

Additionally, because so much embroidery is now computerized, I’ve taken in my own designs and they’ve scanned them into the sewing machine computer so that it comes out identical to what I’ve provided. Great for logos, team shirts, etc!

One of my favorite results was when I bought boot bag, helmet bag, coat bag, grooming tote, etc from Dover on sale. I took them in and had my initials done in small and discreet places. They look fantastic, and I get lots of compliments on them.

Uh oh, talking about it here just fanned my cravings for more!

OTTB saddle pads

This person makes saddles pads that are embroided with OTTB. Here is her website. www.ottbdesigns.com

Well, I ordered from SmartPak! They were fabulous, of course. Ordered it Tuesday afternoon with 3 day shipping, and it came on Monday afternoon just in time for the boy’s birthday on Tuesday! I put his name and a horse that looks like him jumping through a horse shoe. His name pretty much goes with any horse in motion (my username). They did his name pretty small, but maybe that was because it is pretty long? I would have like it a little bigger because you probably can’t read it unless you are standing next to the horse, but oh well! The new owner liked it

Thanks for your help!
