saddle pad for HOT weather

I live in hot dry country. Sometimes we ride in shows when the temp gets above 100. Any recommendations for a show pad that will soak up sweat and keep my boy comfortable?

I use Lettia Cool Max baby pads-they wick effectively (are soaked all over by the end of a ride, not just where the saddle sat like some pads), are lightweight, and best of all, they wash BEAUTIFULLY.

They come in a regular weight pad as well as a baby if you need the extra thickness.

I think the pads with the waffle weave underside and the nicely finished top side are a possibility. Anyone know who makes those or tried one? I’d like to try it since my regular waffle weave pad seems to soak up a lot of sweat but doesn’t look as nice for competition.

Just saw the previous post…what is the ‘Cool Max’ fabric? I’m wondering if it’s the stuff I called ‘waffle weave’

I recently started trying one of those new moxie bamboo pads, I like it very much and my horse’s back stays bone dry.

Henry, I’ve never heard of a “baby” pad. Does that go under another? Thanks

it can go under another-it is thinner than a regular weight pad-and many use it that way. I have a custom fit saddle, so I don’t need thicker pads for fit and just use a baby pad. I would think the thinner material would be coolers as well as the wicking that these pads have. If you click on “Lettia Collection” in the link I posted, you can see teh ones with cool max.

Henry isn’t dry underneath when I’m done, but they suck up a ton of sweat-I live in the South where it’s very humid as well as hot, and he seems to do very well working in these pads.

Sheepskin.

I know, it seems like it would be hotter… but the natural properties allow the back to be much cooler.

I originally went to sheepskin because I would head 5 hrs south for a lesson, and the temperature would be dramatically warmer, plus WAY more humidity. Both pony AND myself would just melt. One time his splint boots slid right off his legs because he was so sweaty!

I was swayed by the Endurance world. Probably 90% of Endurance riders want sheepskin or wool. Period.

I use sheepskin too, and the real sheep skin not the fake ones. I use it out on trail and also on show rings.
