My 3/4" 5 Star pad does not stay put when used with my Big Horn Evolution saddle. I’m suspecting the saddle does not fit, but is there any other reason it could be doing this? It doesn’t take much of a ride for the pad to slip back and disappear under the saddle. I’ve also used a thin wool pad with a blanket over it, and that slid as well. The 1/2" Impact Gel does not slide. I feel like, if anything, the saddle has a little more pressure right under the spot where the cantle meets the skirt on each side, but it’s hard to say for sure.
I had a similar problem with a saddle once. It was because the saddle didn’t fit. The issues with that particular saddle were that the bars were too straight and it was too wide for the horse. So either one of those things could be your problem. I tried myriad pads with that saddle and they all did the same thing, so it wasn’t just a pad problem.
Good luck!
Hmm, if anything I think it has too much rock. And doubt it’s too wide. But I still think it’s a saddle fit issue of some sort. She’s a solid Arab/Paint X with a pretty straight back. Things tend to be roll-y on her, which is why I don’t want to use my Bob Marshall on her as a permanent solution.
It’s a saddle fit issue I my experience. Any number of issues can cause it.
Posting pictures would get you the best guess.
Posting pics is a pain, or I would have done it. Our internet is painfully slow. I borrowed a Crates and the pad didn’t budge. I don’t feel that the Crates is a great fit, either. It seems a little snug in the shoulders and is too long.
If I can post pictures without it being a three day event, I will. My plan is to go shopping, with horse, on Friday.
