Saddle Pads

Hands-down, Ogilvy for a square pad. (I only have experience with the baby pads, so I can’t comment on the Profile pads.)

Things I look for in a square pad (in no particular order):

  1. Contoured topline
  2. Stays in place
  3. Cleans up well
  4. Long enough to accommodate full length of sheepskin half pad (I use a Thinline sheepskin pad)

I have never used another pad that met ALL of these criteria, but for me, the Ogilvy baby pad does. Bonus that it stays in place without pesky straps and the little metal logo button is cute.

I have a white one that I used once, it got pretty filthy, and then, for various reasons, I put off washing it for… well, months. Once I did finally wash it, it came out looking fantastic. I would not hesitate to have a whole slew of white Ogilvy baby pads (except for the fact that I was riding a grey horse, and we know how that goes).

I recommend them to everyone.

I’ve also used Back on Track, PRI, HKM, TuffRider, Lettia, Mattes quilt, Dover (both older manufacturer and newer manufacturer, of both large diamond stitch and small diamond stitch varieties), Beval double diamond, and SmartPak pads; none of them compare.

Love love LOVE the Oglivy baby pads. They fit higher withers so well, and don’t slide around, even without the girth loops. I’ve been tempted to off load a few of my thicker pads so I can make room for more Oglivy.

I also like the thinner Lettia pads.

Ogilvy baby pads - hands down. You can usually find them on the cheaper side on Facebook tack sites if you’re lucky! If you are interested in them, I have a full review with pictures on my blog!
