New to me saddle has a very pregnant space where a saddle plate once sat. Putting my name or the horses name on a new saddle plate seems so boring…

Seems like a fun idea, but the font would have to be so small to fit on a saddle plate that it would probably be illegible? That Swanky Saddle company has some fun alternatives with script fonts, etc.
