Saddle Recommendations

Hello! I am on a search for a new dressage saddle to fit my horse. He fits a medium gullet but needs a wider channel. He also has high withers so would love to get a saddle with good wither clearance. I tried a thorowgood but didn’t fit as the channel was too narrow. Any saddle brand recommendations? My budget is $800, so looking for good brands used. What are your guys’ opinions on Stubben, Passier, Schleese, Collegiate, and HDR saddles? I would love to know. Thank you!

Stubben, Passier and Schleese are all quality brands that each fit horse and rider a bit differently. Stubben and Passier are old brands and there still many 40 and 50 year old saddles circulating in usable shape for very cheap but the very old ones will be very flat in the seat, have a narrow back channel, and probably need a total reflock. A Passier that’s 20 years old will look like a modern dressage saddle but not as stuffed up. You can run the Passier serial number through their website and find out the year it was made and other specs.

Both my horse and I love our slightly older Passiers!

Collegiate and HDR are medium quality saddles, much less expensive new than Passier, Stubben, or Schleese. I personally have never had either on my shopping list.
