Saddle Repair - Skirt Replacement

Hello!

This might be a silly question, but I’ve never had to have a saddle repaired. Cat got in to the tack room and used the skirt of my saddle as a scratching post. Gouges are too deep for me to be able to buff them out. I’m hoping I can get the skirting replaced without having to do a full seat replacement. Is this possible to do?

Thank you!

Yes it is. My saddle fitter’s husband expertly repairs saddles and I remember him saying that skirts can be replaced.

You can just replace the skirt, but not sure it would be cheaper than a seat replacement. You still would have to take the seat off to do it. The skirts, welting and seat leather are all stitched together.

Yes, you can do that. I do think the skirts would be cheaper to replace than a seat. But you do have to take the saddle apart, including the seat. Do you want the name of a saddler whose work I like?

Is it a western or an English saddle?

Thank you all for the replies!!! It is an English saddle, and I reached out to a few saddle repair companies near to me. With the cost of taking the saddle apart I was looking at the cost of getting a new saddle. I opted to get a nice gel seat saver that covered up the scratch until the time comes for me to invest in a more expensive saddle. Which will be well protected from the kitties!
