So, I found perfect saddle in England. I know someone else has too… How much did you pay to have yours shipped? I hear they come in some kind of tube. I can’t wait to see that!
Cost around $130 to have my saddle shipped through UPS. Took about 3 days. Came in a regular box.
Most recently I had one shipped from a tack shop in the UK and it was under $100. Normal box.
Usually they are shipped in a normal box. I have sold a saddle to America before. I think there is a (French?) saddle maker somewhere that does send new saddles in a tube. You just curl the flaps in.
It was roughly $100 for shipping. I’d ask the seller specifically for a quote. It may vary slightly.
This prompted me to look at the cost of a Stubben Scout in Germany vs North America. $2285 (1995 euro) vs $3795! Really? Am I doing something wrong… why wouldn’t everyone do this and add $100 for shipping?
It depends.
If you know exactly what you want and don’t need to try it much.
If there is something wrong with the saddle, it can become a hassle to send stuff back and forth.
It can get lost.
In Canada, we can also have surprise duties/taxes.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done it. With saddles and other tack, and it’s not always as easy as it looks.
I got a saddle off eBay once that was listed as being for sale in the States and was $50ish shipping, something normal, so imagine my surprise when it arrived 3 days later, from NORWAY, in a box shaped like an L. It was an dressage saddle and the flaps were like in the bottom of the L and the seat went vertical up the L. So weird. And we are talking about a $450 dollar saddle so I have no idea if the person made any money shipping it express air!
I purchased a BC Eloquence from England a couple years ago. Came in a regular box and shipping was around $60, IIRC.
Omg these quotes all sound so cheap! I just spent $120 shipping a saddle between 2 side by side provinces. Gah shipping is so expensive in Canada.
On on the flip side, I spent 50€ to ship 3 saddle pads from the U.K. (Bargain basement prices still made it worthwhile). Sometimes I think for overseas it less dependent on weight but more on size???
