Saddle similar to Albion SLK but for long legged rider.

Posting for a friend who doesn’t have COTH. Has a horse that previous rider rode in an Albion SLK LH W tree, my friend liked it enough when trying the horse to get one in trial in her size but it will not accommodate her leg (5’11" and needs a 17-17.5" seat.). Before she gets into a custom flap is there anything out there that fits similarly that has more forward flaps with less leg/ thigh roll? The horse doesn’t look hard to fit but we are in the middle of nowhere and shipping adds up fast.

She needs a lot more flap, horse is kinda wide and takes a more bent leg to ride comfortably. I’m actually not sure the Albion would work even custom as I think the stirrup bars would have to move too.

Horse also fits ok in a 36cm Duett, it’s a bit narrow. Just a big wide horse, normal withers and shoulder and barrel. Just big.

As an aside: please don’t suggest a bigger seat, its really not a good solution for tall people riding upper levels, you just slide around. I’m tall too and I’ve made that mistake!

Sounds like a hoop tree type as the LH is more hoop like but, in my opinion, not as “hoopy” like a Duett. Albion saddles also have full front gussets which give a little more support in front. The Black Country Eloquence X is a hoop tree that can have full front gussets and has a flap that is wide enough to enable a bent leg.

Well after looking at the horse he really doesn’t look hoopy so friend went back to old owner and it turns out she was mistaken and he was in a different albion. Which has less blocks, different balance etc so hurrah, should apparently work much better per the rep she asked.

J- out of curiosity how is the rise in that Black Country? I am riding a lot of really wide horses lately and the saddles they have for them tip me forward something awful. The pommels seem really low which makes sense I guess. I really need a saddle with more rise to it and more under the front of my leg. Was thinking of looking at baroque type models maybe? Or an extra wide Passier? How does the Eloquence fit in the seat?

It depends on the model. The X trees or freedom trees such as the Eloquence X will have a lower pommel rise versus the standard Eloquence. As far as the balance goes, if it is correct, you shouldn’t feel tipped. Were you on the cantle rise a little bit?
I can’t say whether a wide Passier would work. The newer ones with the freedom panel, not the same as a freedom tree, might work depending on the horse. The panels are set in lower from the top to allow for more lateral wither room.

Yes the saddles fit the horse and are balanced for them. Other people ride in them too. it’s my pelvis/hip conformation. I apparently have “a short base of support” too. I know I tend to like saddles that put other people into a chair seat and I like smaller seats.

Its usually not a big deal, I just ride in saddles I know fit me and have more rise to them. I have a Smith Worthington that’s perfect and a county, although that’s dieing. Seems hard to find for the draft horses though. My friends Icelandic saddle fits fine, it’s kind of a weird enduro-gaited thing with a more shaped seat. That’s why I was thinking baroque breed brands and models might work.
