We got a newer trailer and I am not sure if the saddle that I am currently using will fit on the saddle racks. The tack compartment is in the back of the trailer and the racks look small. If the saddle will not fit does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to put the western saddle on the floor? Should I stand it up on the horn or lay it on the side?
I’d check to see if the saddle will fit. Personally, I would not put a saddle on the floor of the trailer, front or back tack compartment. One of the kids did that years ago, and the moisture discolored the saddle before I found it (sat for a couple of days after a long show. If you must put it on the floor, there are tack boxes with a saddle holding top (top is shaped like a saddle rack). I’d use one of those and keep it off the floor.
Western saddles should always be balanced on their horn and front bars – never on the sides as it collapses the skirts. But I would only do it temporarily, not for “storage.”
I just need somewhere to put it while we are traveling. As soon as we arrive I keep it on a portable saddle rack. Thanks for the suggestions!
Can you store it safely in the tow vehicle?
What kind of saddle do you have? I can’t imagine it wouldn’t fit.
I just bought a huge roping saddle (for ranch classes) and it fits fine on my saddle rack.
The saddle just fit barely. The closed door just touches the skirt but at least it fits!

They’re no bigger than any other western saddle. :rolleyes: Just heavier.
The rear skirts are oversized on many, like the one I linked to above. And that one also has generous front skirting, too. It’s a lot of leather so they can decorate it. Shrug.
I have one and have ridden in many, many Harris saddles with various options. They’re not bigger than any other training saddle that occupies the same racks in the trailer.
But, hey, if your point was just to call them ridiculous then I guess to each their own.
Some of y’all are taking my commentary personally. I know from personal experience that SOME have oversized skirts, like the one I linked to, and some are normal. Some are lovely. some are gaudy. And someone will pay 15k for the one they love. More power to them!
Some are floofy, and that’s ok. Variety makes the world go round. And some of us think some varieties are…ridiculous 
It is a cutting saddle that I am borrowing. It seems huge to me but it is probably just standard.
