Saddle Suggestions - Tall wither, flat back

I am getting to the end of my rope with saddles and fitting - I cant get ahead it sees!

I am looking to see what other have done for a horse that has a back profile similar to mine. My horse is a warmblood, but does seem to have a high/tall, long wither going into a very flat back (in motion)

I have a WONDERFUL saddle fitter that has given me some suggestion of saddles and trees to try, but I am just looking for other peoples opinions on what have worked for a similar shaped horse. I have been suggested to try an Amerigo, Errplus and maybe a Childeric or anything that is higher end British saddle

I know that is very hard to help with saddle suggestion on the internet and I just need to go to a professional but I also like to hear about things that I might not have in my neck of the woods. I would also like to her peoples personal experience with some of the above mentioned saddles - specifically Childeric as I am not sure I have seen one on a flat backed horse

I just bought a brand new saddle that does not fit my horse and the company will “only change the panels” on the saddle, however, as my fitter put it, you cant change the panels on a saddle where the tree is wrong.

So, personal experience from anyone out there that has own a horse with a tall, long wither and flat back?

I’m not generally a CWD fan, but a CWD SE01 fit my flat backed, high withered horse well.

I would have not thought about Pessoa, or Albion! Interesting thank you!

I havent even hear of Ideal, I will have to look into that

My DD’s horse has a similar build and we ended up with an Arion which was working well. He’s laid up right now so we’ll see how it fits when he comes back into work.

My horse has goodly sized withers and is flat backed per two different fitters (he doesn’t look particularly flat or curvy to me but I’m not a fitter). My boy is also broad. He goes nicely in a Duett I had custom built for him.

Thank you! Duett is another name I haven’t heard!

They are bench made in England but the owners are stateside. The price point and service are very good imo. The whole brand is generally geared towards broad backs.

See if you can get hands on an Amerigo Vesuvius or CC, depending how flat he is. Lovely quality product and both are built on trees that suit withers, wither hollows, and a flat profile.

That’s absolutely something to be aware of especially if shopping used. Dealing with Duett directly via in person or remote fitting, I’m confident they wouldn’t recommend a saddle with insufficient wither clearance.

People do say that hoop trees tend to be lower than more traditional trees over the withers, but still adequate clearance is needed. As my horse is both broad backed but has big withers some hoop tree saddles were not an option as many broad backed horses have no withers to speak of and saddles may be built for that shape.
