Saddlebred Breeders - Southeast

I would love COTH help identifying reputable ASB breeders in the southeast (emphasis on SC, NC, GA, and KY). I’m toying with the idea of a young one and would like to speak with breeders who may have young saddle stock better suited for a sporthorse career.

I wonder if contacting ASHA in Lexington would help in case they have a membership list for breeders. When I used to belong they put out an annual booklet listing all members by state.

I’ve had Captive Horizon Saddlebreds in Danville, KY recommended to me as a good breeder for the sport buyer to work with.

Here’s a couple breeders for saddleseat in Ky. and one in Tn. and also a way to contact ASHA.

I have known Debbie Foley who owns Sliver Brook Stables in Louisville since she was a pup, normally she has young stock … personally I would start with her

Her dad started the farm to raise Shetland ponies back in the 1950s

I have been out of that world for a really long time but someone I know has a mare that came from this farm who is a lovely sport horse type. Sired by their stud Bob Bobaloo. https://www.allrosesfarm.com/ They’re located in Versailles, KY

Loads of people…
Melissa Moore
Kurt Tunstall
Callaway Hills always has gorgeous babies fairly priced
Suzy Shiftlet
Matt Shiftlet
Alida Snyman was getting out the breeding business

Alex Gravett has a beautiful 3 year old for sale for eventing/dressage.

Plenty more but thats off the top of my head.

Track down Patricia Borders

This 16.2, coming 3 yr old was just posted on some of the Saddlebred sporthorse facebook sites. Located in Staunton, Virginia, willing, athletic, laid-back personality, well-handled, well-bred, reasonably priced.
Not mine, p.m. me for his contact info.

When I was shopping for an ASB sporthorse some 20 yrs. ago, I looked mainly for stock from 5 gaited pedigrees. I wanted the old style horse with more bone and a meatier more muscular body. Also the gaited lines generally had a more laid back shoulder angle along with the strong hind end.
So many of today’s SBs are smaller, finer boned and not as muscular overall. Very different horse than the old style.
And don’t overlook 1/2 saddlebreds. I searched for a ASB/WB cross but there were few bred then. They’re more
popular now.

Feel free to hit me up if you would consider a custom foal. I have a stunning, typey Saddlebred filly that i’m training right now, planning to breed her in 2020 or 2021. I have a breeding to Finest (Furstenball x Wie Weltmeyer) already bought, but could be persuaded to breed her to something else of comparable quality if someone was interested.

Where is a sobbing emoticon when you need one. Ugh. She is so lovely and a ASB/WB is my dream combo. If my situation is such that two are feasible, I’ll be banging down your door.
