I just recently bought a Bob Marshall saddle and am driving myself crazy trying to decide what kind-of pad to get to use with it! I know alot of people use Skito pads, and others use Toklat…has anyone ever tried a Saddleright? I’d really appreciate any opinions/experiences you have had with any pads you’ve used. Thanks!
Yes, I used one with my BM, then with my Torsion. I had no luck with Treeless saddles and the Skito & Skito type pads. They were good at first, but then as me and my horse warmed up they squished down to nothing which caused great hip pain for me. The Saddleright pad offered firm cushion and support which was more comfortable for both me and my horse.
Does the Saddleright pad offer enough spine clearance like the Skito, which you’ll need with a Treeless saddle?
I’ve been using my Skito for many years without a problem. The foam has retained it’s shape through hours and hours of trail riding.
For shorter rides I just used the Saddleright with liner and had no issues, but then I had a broad backed horse with a spine hidden by his meaty back.
I also took the thick 1"+ laminated inserts out of my Skito and replaced them with plain 1/2" inserts and used that under my saddleright for long rides (3+ hours).
I have 1 Toklat and 3 Skito pads that I have been using since '96 with my Bob Marshall treeless saddle. I have replaced the inserts after several years and have had zero issues with the various horses I’ve ridden with it over the years. no sore backs, no white hairs, no tail swishing when girthing, etc and I go on long rides.
