Saddles that ride like a Luc Childeric? Calling all Luc Fans!

Hello Luc Fans!

I love my Luc…the close contact feeling (I can feel a horse’s back start to swing) combined with the leg support and upper thigh support, but it doesn’t fit my massive wb, so it has to go.

What do you ride in that reminds you of a Luc (I need something for a wide, old style warmblood!)???

Childeric dressage saddles are built on a jumper saddle tree…a concept that needs looking into…as it doesn’t block the shoulder on most horses…
Can you not get a wide Childeric? (I think Forrestier saddles are built on the same concept…?) The older County saddles have different mechanics but also don’t block the shoulder…maybe look at them.

oh, no… the PSG didn’t work? :frowning:

I know nada about Childerec’s, but based on Fixer’s post, Prestige is built on a more jumper-like tree, with a ‘forward’ balance. And you mention the Amerigo, I find some of the Prestiges (not all) resemble that type of balance & fit.

PP–Neg–Sadly, it didn’t work for me on my WB…not wide enough either.

Keep the suggestions coming…

I’m hoping somebody will say “oh, ______________ rides just like my Childeric”

I have a Luc Childeric jumping saddle that I love. I was having a heck of a time finding a dressage saddle for my wider backed, and very particular, WB mare. The saddle that she absolutely loves, and that gives me a very similar feeling to the Childeric when riding, is the Steffan Peters by Custom.

I had tried several far more expensive saddles, but none allowed her to use her back and freed up her shoulder the way this one does. My trainer is absolutely thrilled with how my mare moves in this saddle.

Try L’Apogee. They are basically the exact same saddle. I don’t know if they come in a wide or not though.

Do you have the AO Tree? I had to get mine from the UK to get the wider tree in my Childeric DAC. They do technically come in regular and Wide but they call the wide one the AO tree.

Schlesses Link - you’ll love it. (I really did not like the L’apogee)

agreed. Only, are Luc’s foam flocked? L’Apogee are.

I went with a Custom Advantage (Steffan Peters) yesterday.

I loved the Custom Wolfgang at the barn and was ready to buy one until a Custom saddle fitter put me in the Advantage. Hello, I’m doing a half-pass while somehow sitting in something as comfy as a coach, yet I can feel him under my seat and leg. Hello, I’m in love. Nice choice, Steffan. Truly. Love that saddle.

I kept my Luc though–fits the MW OTTB I have beautifully. Not as comfy, but well balanced–just not workin’ on my wide selle.

Thanks for your suggestions. If I ever have the chance to sit in a L’appogee, I will!

I believe the Childeric are latex panels.

Have you looked at getting new panels on your current Childeric? Don’t know if it would help, but they can be replaced with a different thickness etc., to change the shape.

Almost all French saddles are foam paneled with a layer of wool against the tree. The panels can be changed or the wool can be increased for saddle fitting adjustments.
