I have recently discovered that I am having so much trouble with my riding because I keep getting saddles that are waaay too wide for me. I sat in a saddle with a narrow twist recently and it was like “oh, I can get legs on my horse!!!”. Problem is, I need a wider seat, otherwise, my seat bones are on the seams or falling off the edges.
What saddles should I be looking for? I am not familiar with all the brands. I really haven’t got a bunch of money for a custom saddle right now and since he is only 4 I don’t want one anyway.
Albion is where I would start for you.
Edited to add: Hi Anne!! I just realized that was you. I am sad you aren’t in VA to help me.
I like the Albions. I had a nice used one a few years ago but sold it when I wasn’t leasing. My new guy is built like a freaking tank…a propane tank!
I agree, try Albions, I had one (I also need a wide seat), seat was perfect but for me the twist was too narrow, so one might work well for you.
I can recommend Ann Forest at Equestrian Imports for both a consult and an opportunity to try some great saddles. I loved the Albion Fabrento she sent me.
angelsix, It is nice to hear from you! Feel free to email me pictures and I can give you some ideas after that.
Also there is a saddle fitter who moved back to Va that I suggest you contact. Her name is Jolie. This is her email: jolie@jsuttonsmith.com
I think the newer Wintec/Bates Isabell Werth saddles were made to have a wider seat but retained the narrow twist. Maybe worth a try!
I’ll second Albion. One of the only ones that comes narrow and wide seat.
Trilogy Verago
Thanks!
Trilogy Amadeo really helped me with the same issue you are having. The Trilogy Verago worked well too, but if I am remembering correctly, the Amadeo was slightly wider in the seat for my seat bones though both have a narrower twist. I am now riding in a Takt and don’t have that issue in it either.
2nd the Trilogy Amadeo!
I ws thinking of Albions and Triology, too. I have a Trilogy Debbie and it would suit that description, too.
