Yes, I did it last night about 30 min for each of the 3 modules, don’t wait until the last minute. Definitely something you could not complete at a horse show office-you need to concentrate and pay attention.
As with all Computer Based Training, it takes longer if you watch videos instead of reading a transcript. Some read faster than others. Clearly YMMV.
I agree with 30 min per unit but never 30 min for all three units… And I am not sure how to skip the videos… I didnt see a written alternate…
most broad-based online training has a read-only option for those who can’t see the videos. You not seeing it doesn’t mean it’s not there I’m only doing schooling shows so I am not taking the training to comment further
Thank goodness for this thread! This had slipped under my radar, and I might have found out about it at the last moment. It does take about 1 1/2 hours, but it couldn’t be easier. The hardest part was acknowledging that this is necessary…horrible to think what some kids have gone through.
I have stated in either this or the other thread that 1) I do think we should have this training 2) I have plans of when I will take it and 3) I am trying to get it as an event for my GMO to accommodate those who can’t take it at home.
By no means do it think a majority of people can’t take the training. However, I have now had four people who are not on this forum tell me they have problems with their Internet letting them on. I do not have the ability to do it at home, but am managing to do it. It’s a total inconvenience, yes, but I have devices so I will be able to do so.
I still don’t understand the offense y’all are taking st your lack of understanding that when. Your sport, by nature, includes a more rural population - they won’t all have the same access to technology. It’s reality, not an insult to anyone, and my GMO responded really positively to my suggestion and offer to help set up training.
the OPs histrionic flouncing is the trigger for me. Had one asked a question rationally one might get more reasonable response. The drama she provides feeds the thread’s tendency to say get a grip on life
What should have happened DECADES ago was for the equestrian community to turn jimmy Williams in and others like him. A lot of young people could have been spared from horrible experiences had people not turned a blind eye…,
I agree. However being that this is the HORSE industry I still wish there would be some concern that anyone can roll out of bed and call themselves a trainer/instructor, put naive beginners on 1200 pound animals with zero credentials, experience or sense…
I think there is concern for that. It’s up to anyone joining a sport for the first time to educate themselves. That being said, the horse industry isn’t unique when it comes to any of the issues Safe Sport touches on. Nor is it unique to parents sending their kids off with the team(barn) and the coach. I don’t know WHY everyone thinks it’s different.
You can’t skip the videos, they have to play to get the “continue” arrow to move on. There is a written transcript for each video though, so you can read the transcript as the video plays.
Would some people just allow it to play and walk away coming back occasionally to check for the continue arrow?
Another way I think some people might cheat is to have someone else do the viewing for them. For example, paying a working student to take the test for a trainer. I have a couple trainers in mind that I can’t envision spending two hours viewing these videos. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Totally. Do these trainers fall into the category of NEEDING the training? Ie are they dirtballs? As I said before I call this type of training don’t be a d*** training. I have to do it. Do I need it? No, I am not a d***. I let it play in the background. Honestly, most people are going to do this with the required refresher training.
Apparently the mandatory rule is for adult competitors. Any one know if there is similar training required for juniors, so they know what behavior is not appropriate ?
It’s in this thread or another that yes, a similar training module is currently being prepared for juniors to complete.
USEF just needs to document that they supplied the training to their adult membership population. I can’t really imagine that someone would PAY someone else to do it - maybe a big trainer will make an office manager do it for them. It’s just not that formal. It’s not like a CE or licensing exam for a professional licensure.
Does McDonalds allow you to access their internet for that amount of time? Some places only allow certain amount of time.
That said I do not think Safesport is a terrible requirement but there are limitations with people and the internet. It always sounds so easy to say just go to McDonalds or the Library or the Grocery store. I have tried that at times and “locks” on free internet have at times not allowed me to stream or upload. Our library at one time only allowed 30 minutes of internet time. Here at the office we hadf a public internet that also only allows thirty minutes.
Yes this will be an inconvenience for some maybe more than people on this board realize but I think the inconvenience has work-arrounds and is doable.
quoting this, because I am not sure whether it will really work like this… I usually need to add copies of all my numbers and all my horses registration numbers although they are in the system as well… So why should this show up automatically?? I assume you need to include couples in your entry probably and the 30 min online class is not true… its three 30 min online classes…
So I just completed the training, I consider myself a well informed business owner/manager. (I came out of the corporate world) and I learned a few things. I was at 80-90% in answering the questions before running the course.
edited to add that I am still shocked at what the doctors and coaches got away with at the big universities. People just can’t be that stupid but at that level of competition a lot of people look the other way, I would NEVER look the other way.
To register your training you have to put in your USEF number. I’m sure safesport sends reports to USEF of the numbers/members that have completed the training.
The USEF system is not linked to online entry systems such as horseshowoffice or foxvillage. That is why you have to enter horse numbers again.
They’re two totally unrelated things.
