Yes, SafeSport reports to USEF. A day or two after you complete all three sections, it will show up in your USEF member dashboard that you have completed the training. (I think mine showed up the next morning.)
Thanks for the Head up. I guess we will see how it works out…
I finished my 3 sections between last night and this morning. I would say that last night took me about an hour - to get to the site, set up my account, and then do section 1. This morning, when I went back to do the other two, they probably took me 30 minutes each. I admit to playing Free Cell while the video’s ran. Each video is short but cant be skipped and there are a bunch of them. Also - at one point I looked at the PDF and there was 42 pages of stuff related to one topic vs a video of a couple minutes (??).
DONT be fooled when you do the first section and they say you get a certificate - I saw that and thought I was done. Wrong. 3 sections, 3 tests, 3 certificates.
All I can say is dont ever get mad and throw your whip or helmet on the ground or tear your test into confetti or you will be accused of emotional misconduct…
I agree very well written!!! exactly my experience as well. I finished it last night…
It’s called integrity. Some people have it and some people don’t.
LOL! I thought it was a bit over the top too
Well, I’ll be damned if I ever give anyone anything again. Who knew this was “abuse”?
Do grown adults really throw things on the ground in public? I thought the temper tantrum phase ended at about age 7.
I took mine as well yesterday. I decided I might as well get it done and cross it off of the list. I finished the first section, printed my certificate and thought I was done, nope… two more sections after that. I will say, if I didn’t have high speed internet, it would suck with all of the videos. I do think GMO’s could and should offer help to anyone that needs it.
Oh and as as far as emotional misconduct, depends on how intense the instructor is. I just kept thinking of how tough Tiger Wood’s Dad was to him as a Golf coach when he was a kid. As far as sport goes, he seemed to do ok with it. Lol
I have seen some adult temper tantrums - not many, most back in my hunter days, but enough to know they can still happen. And then there is one sort-of-friend who spent $$ on horse and more $$ on training and still burst into tears after about 1/2 her lessons. (“so and so doesn’t understand, isn’t fixing me, I cant ride the horse…yada yada”) Trainer was not in any way inappropriate but they sure weren’t a good personality match…
I feel like this is a great idea. Safe Sport has been around for a while, and I know it’s required by a lot of sports organizations that deal with youth athletes. When I was still running a barn I worked for a while back, we had planned to have all instructors and staff involved undertake the training as a matter of professionalism. I also ended up doing some research, and the CDC allows you to take a free concussion assessment course that gives you a little certification as well as some clear information on how to handle concussions. The USPC uses this information, too.
follow tennis much?
I’m sure glad I didn’t pay for a life membership for this tripe. I’d sure be asking for my money back.
To add something new to this thread:
No one has mentioned that it is NOT only a 90 minute Core Training, but USEF also requires an annual (yes, annual) 30 minute refresher course at every renewal. Every year.
And if you already took the course in 2017 (ie, many professionals and officials did), sorry but you are not done! You have to take it again in its updated version.
I think that the USEF is swatting a pesky insect with a sledgehammer. No, a thousand sledgehammers. The number of hours of effort required from tens of thousands of sport participants to meet this requirement is astounding.
I will be taking the course because I want to compete. But I think the goals could have been met in a much simpler way: such as with a shorter training video and a 15 minute checklist/confirmation at renewal time…
can’t say that I do, but if you’re going around throwing whips and helmets, perhaps tennis is a better fit.
They don’t have a choice. There’s no other implement besides the sledgehammer available.
They have to meet a federal requirement that adult membership take safesport training. Not that they develop their own shorter training, or whatever - that they prove that their adult membership has taken the training. The refresher is required every other year, but they have to somehow address people who don’t join/renew on a calendar year basis. There is no definition really for “authorized to interact with minor athletes” and I’m guessing the USEF lawyers advised them to assume anyone competing at a horse show could be interacting with a minor athlete.
The requirement is that consistent training is offered, and it’s audited.
Honestly. It’s an hour out of your life and then 30 minutes once a year. If your time is that valuable, I can’t imagine you have any time to go to a horse show.
@soloudinhere given the number of times it has been reiterated to no avail that safesport is mandated from outside the usef to usef by virtue of it being the ngb for horse sport in the us, I think it’s fair to presume at this point that these people never learned to read and will benefit from no further education in any form or on any subject :lol::lol:
I keep forgetting that common sense is not common.
I am guessing it will be the same: nothing. I doubt anyone will be turning away the entry fees. Seems to be the way to go. 99.9% of riders aren’t going to the Olympics.
