Safe, sturdy pasture toys

I’m hoping someone can help me come up with some safe and fun toys for the pasture. My friend and I have our horses (both 9 year old morgan geldings) turned out together and they are goofy! They are being pretty respectful of each others blankets, but their halters are fun to bite, the lead ropes get taken off the gate, and one of them has been known to pick up the water bucket (big muck bucket) and drag it around. We gave them a jolly ball and an old rubber feed pan to play with, but they are getting tired of these. Anyone have some good ideas for safe toys suitable for the pasture? I’m considering one of those big Stacy Westfall balls, but they seem awfully pricey!

Eta, my horse had a traffic cone a while ago, and he didn’t seem too interested in it, but maybe now that he is turned out with another playful horse it will be more exciting.

See, I was going to suggest the rubber feed pan…my naughty one loves to carry his all over the place, even better if he can find someone to hit with it.

I brought out a big ~2’ (2" thick or so) dog rope toy that was a big hit until it got too frayed. It had a knot at either end, good for thunking friends with!

In the fall, he thinks pumpkins are an absolute blast. They roll, they’re safe to eat, and they can be stomped on when you’re bored.

Shredding Christmas trees is always fun too, although it’s a little late for those.

Milk jugs filled with some rocks can be fun, MUST attach a rope to the handle so that they can be swung around!

I tried giving him a pumpkin in the fall, he went right up to it and bit it and then walked away unimpressed. I just ordered another traffic cone, and maybe I’ll look for another feed pan. Right now my horse holds the pan and smacks the other horse in the face when he tries to take it. It’s so funny because I’ve owned this horse for 4 years and, while he’s mouthy and has a little bit of an obnoxious streak, he’s never been this playful. I guess it took another young, playful morgan to bring out his inner child! He and his old 19 year old QH buddy never played together.

I’ll have to remember the milk jug idea for the spring, right now we have too much snow for this to work real well.

Our geldings like playing with old tires. They will pick them up, play tug of war, and smack each other with them.

I would never have thought of putting tired in the pens, but DH thought they would like them…and he was right.

build a free standing section of fence out of something very strong as our geldings like to play over a fence… most favorite game appears to be Whose Got Your Tongue

ours are Morgans also, so an added bonus toy would be add a gate to the free standing fence with a lock… they will play with until they cam open it
