SafeSport Training - Has anyone completed the course and had it register on their USEF Account?

I completed the last module Sunday morning. It shows completed Monday morning.

Yep.

I love that they have the training, I HATE the technical execution of it. I was on travel for work and worked on the training in the little bit of my free time (besides travel time, attending the conference and networking events I was expected to, eating, etc., I worked 32 hours that week - I just had very little time awake in my hotel. My connection worked to run youtube and stream Hulu - and this training was more data heavy than either of those. Youtube uses something like 1GB/15 min. So this was just absurdly data heavy.

I gave up after 2 hours, partway into the second module. I’ll stay with a relative with high speed internet over the holidays for more opportunity to finish, because the free wifi in a bookstore or Starbucks will be nowhere near fast enough to complete it.

@netg I have a pretty good internet speed. Still, the videos would stall. I made it through the videos by sliding the time played bar back a few seconds whenever it stalled. This would cause the next part of the video to load. Finally, I just kept my cursor over the time-played bar and I could see when the video was going to stall and choose to restart the video about 10 seconds before it would stall. Not sure if that makes sense. I hope it does.

I finished the course last night and I have the status updated on my USEF account today.

Thanks again everyone for the feedback!

I did - it was easy. Took me about an hour and a half, it was slightly confusing which sessions to take, but not a problem. Just checked USEF and it shows that it’s completed, so looks like it all went through.

I can do that with youtube and hulu - it was so data heavy the videos wouldn’t get started for that to even be an option!

Again, it’s the really lousy technical execution which makes it hard to even take for many people which I mind - I totally agree with having the training. And I will get it done, I just now know for certain that the “oh, it’s easy, just stop by starbucks” folks REALLY don’t know how bad it is.

You might remember, I posted a thread on this very issue a while back and was eaten alive - I took a break from COTH because people were so NASTY about it. I’m still rather cautious about many people on this board after that experience. This is my first time posting here since then - we’ll see, maybe I’m better off without COTH

It is horrible - and USEF and SafeSport do not care - I contacted both to point out that it is far too data intensive, that many (MANY) people in this country who live in rural areas do not have access to sufficient bandwidth to run these videos. The response I got from SafeSport was - try a new browser, get different internet service (totally useless advice - we don’t have options in rural areas). No response at all from USEF.

It took me an entire day to stream this video - plus two other half days of it constantly shutting down my entire computer. I have friends who are still on dial-up, and they will not be able to complete this at all - it is going to drive even more people away from showing. Two of my friends have said it is the final straw - they are done with USEF/USDF and rated shows. So - what have we gained? Meanwhile, many are moving to schooling shows -and there are WAY more juniors in that environment.

Meanwhile, I have asked several parents of junior riders if they’ve done SafeSport - and not a single one has even heard of it. How ineffective is that? Parents and kids need this training more then anyone!

So far, I rate this as a total fail on the part of both SafeSport and USEF. This could have been done so well, and it was not. I work with schools - they have all kinds of mandated reporter training - and it is much better then SafeSport (and much more accessible).

I registered to take the SafeSport training and am able to log-in without an issue. When I select a module to play, a new screen opens with a picture and nothing else, no sound no buttons or instructions appear. Am I missing a step or something??

I’m extremely disappointed to learn USEF didn’t offer a hard copy version upon your request

I am attempting to take it now and I am having trouble getting started or even understanding what to do.

First, there is nothing on the site (not that I can see) that says what “it” is. I have gleaned from users on this board that is consists of videos we watch, and then, answer questions about? If that is the case, why doesn’t the site clearly explain that? Is there any sort of overview of what the training is? The about pages only talk about who they are and why they provide the training, but I don’t see any description of the actual training.

I can see various chapter headings on the “learning dashboard” such as “sexual misconduct awareness” “refresher 1: recognizing a reporting misconduct” and “mandatory reporting, understanding your responsibilities.”. And when I click on one or more of these titles, my laptop opens a new window that is entirely blank, with about: blank as the window heading.

I do see under FAQ “why aren’t the videos playing?” and I find it interesting that there is no other reference to videos. Is the blank page simply my laptop waiting for a video to load? It’s been more than ten minutes. How long should I give it?

Anyone else experience this?

Mine was super easy to do. Took like an hour and it showed up on my USEF account.

@Silverbridge, I did experience that immediately after I registered at SafeSport and tried to start the training. I got so frustrated I just stopped for the day. The next day, I logged into USEF and clicked the SafeSport icon. It took me to the SafeSport page, the three courses were available for me to start and they ran…basically fine. I had some technical glitches where the videos would get stuck while playing and I would rewind them a little and start playing again to work my way through the videos.
