Safety Stirrups for Adult Beginners

I like the Herm Springer 4 way flex stirrups. I tried to research safety stirrups but there seems to be a shortage of studies on which stirrups are safest. Wear a good helmet that is professionally fitted at a tack shop, and think about a safety vest.

After a bad fall where my horse fell, I switched to safety stirrups. I looked at several different kinds and bought two types. I particularly like the SafeStyle stirrups, which are comfortable, fool proof and not too expensive. I also have the Acavello Arena, which are nice but you have to think about getting them the “right” way.

I wrote a couple of articles on my blog that you might find helpful. BTW, I am not a beginner. I think everyone should ride in safety stirrups and a helmet. The consequences of getting dragged are enormous. It wasn’t until I had such a serious accident that I decided to put the odds more in my favor by riding only in safety stirrups.
