Safety stirrups that don't cost $300?

Ask for them for Christmas!

ETA: I asked USPC via Facebook and they confirmed they were going to ban them. Not sure of the rationale, I can only hope it wasn’t from the half-cocked lawyer writing paid editorials to COTH that changed their minds…

Has anyone tried the Waldhausen safety stirrups? They’re 90 EUD on this site and look like duplicates of the Acavallo arenas: https://www.fundis-equestrian.com/horse/saddle-accessoires/stirrups-stirrup-leathers/safety-stirrups/24351/waldhausen-safety-stirrup-pro

I had the AluPro ones that @luvmyhackney linked above and whatever is supposed to hold the detachable piece in place is no longer effective on one of the two stirrups and it comes open periodically when I ride. It was enough of a distraction that I replaced them with FreeJumps on the saddle I use for more serious jumping. Love the FreeJumps, but they’re definitely not less than $300.

Good to know, I was looking at these but am not sure about them. I also saw a post on Facebook where someone’s Acavallos completely came apart at the footbed.

That’s scary and worrisome. They must have quality control issues.

I’ve only had mine since Sept, so far so good.

No problems with my Acavallos opening or falling apart. However, I did notice recently that the black is wearing off on the inside where my boot rubs. Of course that’s just cosmetic and not a safety issue, but the finish on the LeMieux’s seems more durable. I think the Acavallo’s are around a year old, maybe a little more.

I’ve been riding in mine for over a year and I’ve had no issues, knock on wood.

I may have gotten a lemon Acavallo.

If I’d gotten them from a US retailer I might have tried to pursue it, but I bought them from England. At the time I thought I was going to show in the eq and the silver ones were hard to find here and pricier.

I think the issue started about 1.5 years in.

I like the FreeJumps better anyway.

Just wanted to follow up for anyone interested, I ended up purchasing these stirrups and they’re fantastic! Very good quality, especially for the price. The only thing I don’t love is the all metal grip but I’m picky and that’s an easy fix with my extra grip stirrup pads that zip tie on. I’ve added those to nearly every pair of stirrups I’ve had so nothing really new there.

I had the B Vertigo stirrups and after a month or so the foot bed started squeaking and it was so annoying that I stopped using them. Has anyone else had this happen with this style of stirrups and is there anything that you can do about it?
