Safety vests

Hi all, Thinking about a safety vest whilst baby horse works through her opinions about being a riding horse… I had one years ago but 1) its probably too old and 2) it was for cross country and its too long to ride in my dressage saddle. Does anyone have one they love? I don’t want one of the air ones… It doesn’t have to be the most protective vest ever made, but something that is comfortable and able to be worn with a dressage saddle.

thanks

Tipperary makes a wide range of vests, including some meant for arena/trail riding (not XC).

You may want to look at the Contour Flex model. I just had a friend email Tipperary asking about vests she could wear in a Western saddle that would fit her body shape, and they got back to her same day with a few suggestions to try on, so you could check in with them as well!

I use the ovation comfortflex for combined driving marathon. That’s relevant to your interests because sitting in a carriage required a vest that doesn’t cover your tail bone or sit too low. Plus it’s very budget minded at $237 on chewy

I wear the Racesafe Provent 3.0 vest when I ride, including when I ride in my dressage saddle (which is most of the time). It comes in several different sizes, and the bottom of the back of the vest, which comes down over the tailbone, can be flipped up if it interferes with the dressage saddle.

Race Safe ProVent is also what I went for the first year or so of my mares opinionated baby era. No problems riding in a dressage saddle and I use it for the occasional XC or trail ride. I think they make a back protector and jockey vests that are lower profile but not as protective. I found mine comfortable enough on all but the hottest days.

I really like my Racesafe ProVent 3. It’s so much cooler than my old traditional Tipperary vest and you can really tailor the size to what you need (bust, back length and front length).

@outerbanks77 I’m looking forward to moving past baby dragon’s opinions. Right now learning to trot under saddle seems to require bucking at least once each time… :grimacing:
