Sales Sites?

With the big Facebook group gone, and the newer one seeing less traffic, I’m assuming people are listing their sales horses somewhere else? I haven’t shopped in two years, and at that point it was 100% Facebook. Where should I be looking? Thanks

I have to say, its a huge source of stress for me, since I need to sell a horse! No one uses the sales sites anymore, everyone was using FB, so I’ve paid for a few ads on sales sites, and they get very little traffic. I know someone who use to run one of the sales sites, and she’s more-or-less abandoned it because that is not what people pay for anymore (and not what shoppers use anymore).

So I’m following this with some interest! I think a lot of people are STILL using FB, and trying to get around the no-sales rules by not listing prices. And someone told me yesterday, there is a new social media group started up that does allow sales - but she couldn’t remember the name, so I’m watching for that as well.

Dreamhorse is still used for less expensive horses - under $10k seems to be the price point for people that use it. Otherwise, I’m trying to figure this same question out…

It would depend on whether you want to shop USA or import and also whether you want young/green or something more advanced. From reading your posts, it seems you would be interested in a quality horse. I don’t see many of them advertised on places like warmbloodsforsale, etc. I think it’s likely you are going to be looking at horses with a commission involved. If I were looking, I would go to the websites or facebook pages of trainers that are known for selling nice horses. I often see a horse I like on the German Horse Center site:

Wasn’t the big facebook dressage sales page moving to instagram eventually anyway? (Or one of the new social media sites - I don’t have instagram so I don’t know how to find it exactly.) Maybe look there? I agree that it definitely feels like there’s a void.

Edit: I think this is it: https://www.instagram.com/horses4yc/?hl=en

I was able to find FB sites for particular breeds, looking for PRE and PSL. There is the Andalusian/Lusitano Marketplace and the Andalusian/Lusitano US & CA only… They generally don’t say “for sale” and don’t list prices…Perhaps you can look for the particular breed/registry you are interested in…

I miss the FB sale site, it was better than dream horse or dressage starz. Dressage Daily used to have a nice site,

Depending on what you are selling, there are still targeted facebook groups. You just have to cater the language to avoid facebook’s trigger words and many people are actually able to leave their posts up. Likewise, posting an ad on your personal page, making it sharable, and then sharing that in the groups seems to do an alright job of staying up.

But yeah - definitely do look for facebook groups, they’re still out there. The big dressage group has been taken down, but others have cropped up here or there (or stayed standing - some are not new).

Thanks everyone! I wish we all had some more clarity!

Yes, I’m looking for something with some quality, and not a neon green 3 y/o. I’d look at a 5 y/o if it had solid basics and an understanding of impulsion. I have contacts in Europe, but was hoping to see what was for sale here before I unleashed someone to set up a trip and started doubling up commissions or flying someone over with me. I’ve joined MeWe, but the biggest group I’ve found has less than 200 people. I check Warmblood-Sales and Dressage Daily’s HorseMarket but there just isn’t a lot there. I don’t bother with Dreamhorse. I’ve just started calling/messaging everyone I know that usually has a few for sale, hopefully something turns up.

I really like https://warmblood-sales.com/ - that’s where I found my horse recently and a lot of other good prospects. It says “warmbloods” but they have Iberian horses and crosses too. That said, you wouldn’t find other breeds there but it’s otherwise a handy resource.

Also, putting out an “ISO” (in search of) post on the FB group is really useful - people will pipe up.

On FB lookup dressage horses for sale or lease in CA. I think they are getting around the price listing by spelling it out instead of $15000 it would be fifteen thousand dollars.

Which FB group?

Whoops! Looks like even the replacement of the prior one is now taken down.

We found our last horse in August on the Facebook group, “Dressage horses and ponies around the world.” It has 23,000 members and decent traffic.

This FB group has survived. https://www.facebook.com/groups/538204829538025/

Warmblood-sales is one I’d used with good traffic years ago before FB was big with sale groups, and an add I’d posted on their earlier this year with some traffic when FB was cracking down on sale pages. A lot of people I know have started using MeWe too, though.

I was just at region 9 champs and these barns had some nice horses for sale

@suzyq Thanks so much! I’ll check them all out! Small world-one of the trainers at Black Star used to be a working student for us.
