Samshield Shadow Matte chrome fading/chipping?

I’ve had my Samshield for a little over two years now - wear it for showing and schooling.

Has anyone else noticed the chrome badge in the front starting to dull and/or chip? I just started noticing this, and wondering what to do about it - I don’t know whether to contact Smartpak, where I bought it, or the manufacturer itself…I’ve never used anything other than water to clean it, and it hasn’t been particularly abused. I was hoping it would last me another few years, but this has me a bit bummed!

I know it looks the rest of the helmet looks a little “smeary”, I tried to wipe it off with a wet towel and it hadn’t totally dried!

a friend of mine had the same problem, I’d contact smartpak (over the phone) and see if they have advice for you

I don’t have any first hand experience but my friend worked at a tack store that got a lot in on consignment and she said a lot of them were chipped too

The same thing happened to my (non-Shadow Matt) Samshield, particularly after riding in the rain. I contacted the store who sold it to me, who gave me an address where I could send it if I wanted it to be fixed. I didn’t want to lose my helmet for weeks so I’ve just put up with it.

We have experienced this issue as well. Samshield has been wonderful about evaluating each helmet and offering a solution. You just have to go through the tack shop you bought it from and they will evaluate and assist you. We have also been assured that the issue had been addressed on future helmets. Good luck!

I posted on the other thread about Samshield customer service, but let me quickly update - I contacted Samshield through their website about my helmet, and without any hesitation, they sent me a brand new helmet, with a shipping label to return my old one to them!

The email I received said this was a problem with some of their early shipments, and they were confident it had been corrected. I’m amazed at the customer service, and will recommend Samshield to anyone who asks!

Thank you for the advice in this thread - there are still good companies out there!

This just happened to me too and contacted the US rep and without a single problem they shipped me a new helmet and just asked I return mine; even gave me a shipping label. Great company!

My client had the same experience and excellent customer service.
