I currently have a Samshield Shadowmatte which I purchased locally and fits great. I’d like to purchase a second one online from a European retailer who has them on sale but I’m having trouble figuring out what size to order. The one I purchased locally is a 7 1/4. However the European retailer has the sizes in cm. The size charts I’ve found indicate that a 7 1/4 translates to 58 cm, however some size charts say I need the Large shell, some say I could take a medium or large. How do I know what size shell I need? I’d like to avoid the “mushroom” head look.
I’m a 58 with hairdown, 59 with hair up. I have both inserts, and I have a L shell. You could go either way, if I recall correctly with the 58. I have a big head and a round face, so the L was the better overall look on me. If you have a more narrow face, the M might be a better plan.
Somewhat related question…is the harness larger on a large shell than a medium? My helmet fits my head fine, but the harness is at the very end of it’s reach…it’s a smidge too small. I didn’t realize you could get different sized shell.
You can only get a different sized shell depending on what liner you have. If you have a liner that fits in a medium, unless it’s a 7 1/4" it won’t fit in a large shell.
