It’s a out time to replace my trusty samshield that I wear for schooling. I have a miss shield with some bling for shows that will stay for that. I’m thinking about getting a one K but there’s nowhere where I live that sell them, my only option would be the small visor from fundis.
Soooo my question is, how do they fit compared to a samshield?
The miss shield feels amazing and I always have worn 1k
I loved my Samshield but when I retired it, I got a One K Defender with MIPS. It fits great and they have a sun visor option.
Most retailers have free returns in sized items, so you’re safe giving it a try.
This is what I’m thinking m. I’m going to be in the US in April so can always get one from smartpack and send it back if it doesn’t fit.
I got a navy suede one & I love it. It is cool, comfortable & I think I look snazzy. I get compliments (I think navy is still a novelty around here). The price makes it even better.
As to how they fit, they do come in regular & long/oval. Some stores only have the regular sizes listed. I haven’t worn a Samshield in years, so I can’t help with that (I know that is why you asked, but I feel the need to particpate).
I love the One K defenders. My head shape (round and 7 1/4) did not fit into the MIPS version. For me it pinched, so I have the non-MIPS version. My two have held up great, done their jobs, and I think look really nice. Their price point is also lower compared to Samshield?
Personally I will never buy another helmet that doesn’t have MIPS technology. Luckily, there are more and more brands and models on the market and a lot more fit options than just a year ago.
I have tried to understand the mips but don’t.
What part of the helmet is different.
@woops and anyone else.
Please come join our MIPS informational group on Facebook.
ETA: Search FB for “MIPS Protection System Equestrian Helmets” Since the link is not showing the full address etc.
We have brand reps, educational video seminars and many things to help explain what MIPS is and why this added bit of safety is so important for your brain health.
We have links to the studies done to this point with both MIPS and Non MIPS helmets and we had a live chat with Dr. Miller from the Virginia Tech Helmet Safety Lab that is currently in process of testing the US based helmets to determine which are the safest models. That video link is posted for all to watch.
We also can explain how to better attain the correct fit with the newer ways of swapping out sized liners in the master sized shells to fit you more correctly and can explain why brands are doing this instead of individually sized helmets as they did in the past.
Please come over and learn from us!

As a random other suggestion, I love the GPA Little Lady.
I still have a OneK, but it never fit me right.
GPA’s have never fit me quite right. I love my samshield but the price tag is rather high for another miss shield
I haven’t worn a Samshield, so can’t speak to the comparison. But I am another OneK enthusiast. I really enjoy both look and comfort.
But there are also two safety features I also value: I prefer having a MIPS helmet. And OneK also has a great replacement policy, so I can get a new helmet for a huge discount every time I fall off.
I’ve had two One Ks and find they are extremely comfortable and fit me well. The tack shop didn’t have my size in the one with MIPS so I ended up buying the Trauma Void.
