San Diego area - Hourly Trail Riding

Hi All,

I’m headed to San Diego on business and I always like to get out and see the area when possible. I am not a city girl! Does anyone know if there are any trail riding places around the area? I will have a car for transport. Too bad my OTTB can’t travel with me - we would go exploring! The area seems so beautiful I’d love to see it on horseback but my google searches tell me I may be seeing the territory on foot instead. Thanks for any suggestions you can give!

DH used to live down there and the suburb he lived in, where the barn was in between the high school and his house, is of course completely built up, BUT, the towns to the east are still rural enough. Lakeside has a couple of google results, of course I haven’t tried any of them. Hope a current local chimes in for you!

The only one I’ve heard of is down by Imperial Beach- they do rides along the beach down by the border. Probably not too exciting for an experienced rider though. We do have lots of trails, some stretch from the ocean to the mountains. It depends where you will be, San Diego County is a pretty big place.

I’m in OC, which is the County next door. I don’t know of any places that you can ride on or near the beach, at least not a rent string. Try looking for places in Fallbrook or Bonsal. More inland, but still San Diego County. Those are horsey communities. Or, Temecula, wine country at the border of San Diego and Riverside counties. There is a barn that offers rides through the vineyards. I don’t know he name but if you google it, I think there is only one. Good luck. We have great weather right now. Not too hot yet.

Sweetwater Farms in Bonita offers trail rides, it is about 20 min from the city. The trails in the area are nice, I ride out on them a few times a week.

There are a few wineries in the Temecula area that offer trail riding through the vineyards. It’s a beautiful area and well worth looking into.
