San Diego Area Trail Group

I’m looking to make contact with some folks or groups that do trail sides in the San Diego / Socal area. I know there’s some great trails around here but so far I haven’t really met that many fellow equine folks. I grew up training endurance horses and doing 10+ mile desert rides and would love to find a group / trails where I can do that around here. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
~John

I am located in Temecula and my husband and I are trying to find the same thing. I posted on a couple of forums so far and no response! We just moved here, so I’m worried there might not be any clubs! Maybe there isn’t that mush trail riding available in SiCal? Has me worried…please PM me if you hear of anything and I will do the same for you!

Don’t worry, I know there’s lots of trails and riders around here, at least in the southern end of SD co. Lots of hoof marks at least…

If I find anything I’ll make sure to let you know.

Go to your local tack/feed store & see if they have Riding Magazine (free). They often have news from trail groups. If there is no news, I am sure the editor of the magazine would be happy to help you find groups. I know I’ve seen info about various groups in that magazine.
I live in Sage (NE of Temecula), don’t trailer anywhere, & have plenty of riding right out my door, so can’t directly help you find anyone.
Good luck.

Besides the San Diego Unit of the Backcountry Horsemen of California http://www.bchcalifornia.org/ , if you’re willing to venture a little farther, Equestrian Trails Inc. has “corrals” or groups that put on lots of rides in southern California. There are two groups that meet in the Riverside area and one in Orange County.

Around page 6 of the ETI magazine each month is the calendar of events, including trail rides: http://www.etinational.com/eti_magazine/

OldMorgans, I am going to PM you if you dont mind. I live in Temecula too, just moved here. I picked up California Horsetrader from Big Horse but don’t see any trail groups listed in the back? Maybe I missed it? Would you mind letting me know the names of the trailheads/areas that you enjoy?

Got it & replied.
Driving home yesterday, I remembered Back Country Horseman. I believe there is a San Diego group & a Riverside Co. group.

OldMorgans thanks! Sorry I read your PM a day or so and forgot to reply, I am so sorry  Thank you for the info. We had a Back Country Horseman in AZ too, I wonder if the just have different groups depending on where you live, will have to check them out for sure. Also will have to check out where Sage is, thanks!
