Anyone catch the race yesterday?
i am not going to comment on the steward’s decision, I really have no opinion since the race was so close.
However what a race, I have been a Bolt D’Oro fan but what a race by 2 game colts.
I feel Derby fever starting!
Both colts looked great! I think they have to be the current leaders, especially since Good Magic did not do well last week in Florida
Justify looked pretty decent in his first-level optional claiming allowance at SA today.
Sounds like Baffert will target a Derby prep next for him (and I do like the Scat Daddy’s).
I didn’t catch all of the San Felipe but saw a few replays (pan and head-on) of the bumper cars both at the head of the stretch and then down closer to the wire.
Don’t know that I agreed but then again, easy to second guess sitting on the couch after the race Having said that, the second event was definitely more noticeable than the one at the top of the stretch.
They both looked good (Bolt D’Oro and McKinzie).
I like Bob Baffert but his commentary after the decision was very unsportsmanship-like. Considering both of the jockeys were very laid back awaiting the decision; even joking around and smiling. Bumping is going to happen when your inches from each other going that fast and Mckinzie shied from the whip. it happens.
I thought they both ran gamely, Mckinzie has been a favorite of mine for some time now but we have yet to see him show up like he did in this race. I will be very interested to see how both of these horses come out of this race; lets see if it took anything out of them.
The Derby has a lot of great contenders this year, its anyone’s game at this point.
I think Good Magic is much better than he was in his last outing and will be interested to see how he does next time out. He might be a late bloomer this year.
I saw the replay! Definitely a thriller. Personally Bolt D Oro is my pick for the derby. I think this years crop of 3 year olds is much more exciting then last years. The derby is anyone’s game right now.
