I remember getting teary eyed when I read this way back when, and I did again today.
Geez….i never knew that happened. I’m crying😢. What a wonderful horse!
I wonder how the person felt who traded him for the trail horse.
Their story gets me every time I read/hear about. Tears. A horse of a lifetime, indeed!
I was lucky to have seen them compete many times in the eq and jumpers.
“He was like my magic flying carpet.”
Did they look as simpatico IRL as they seemed from Brown’s description?
He looks like such an earnest horse in the photographs. His sweet face…
I never knew his story - the end What a horse!
Wow, he is what thoroughbreds are all about - heart. I’m so glad he is now in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame. He richly deserves to be there.
My favorite part of the story was when they faced their first huge oxer. He said I had my eyes closed and I think he did too.
IMO they were a well matched team, and their results showed that. Even in those days when many juniors had one horse for everything I thought Sandsablaze was special, but I am partial to small chestnuts.
